    International Trade Specialist Department of Agriculture 897 reviews - Washington, DC $56,233 - $106,012 a year - Full-time, Part-time Duties Summary The incumbent of this position serves as an International Trade Specialist for the Office of Country and Regional Affairs (OCRA). You will coordinate input from stakeholders to prepare appropriate policy analysis and country/regional strategies for achieving agency objectives within your area of responsibility. You will organize country team meetings, and formulate longer-term strategies for addressing outstanding trade policy issues for agricultural and food products. You will work effectively with other FAS program areas, other USDA agencies, and other USG agencies to ensure analyses and strategies meet Agency, Departmental, and USG objectives. You will monitor trade policy issues for agricultural and food products and overseas markets. You will be responsible for developing country strategies and recommending revisions to adapt to changing market situations. You will provide proposed policy changes to senior USDA officials for guidance through oral or written briefings. Salary Information: First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lowest rate of the salary range. Responsibilities The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity. The duties may include, but are not limited to: * Working as a member of a team or independently, identify and synthesize pertinent information on political, economic and agricultural situations in foreign countries based on continuous research, analysis and evaluation of information from a range of sources. * Plan, prepare and support USDA and FAS executive level meetings and travel, including briefing materials that may require extensive preparation. * Serve as a FAS contact to respond to a wide range of questions from other U.S. government agencies, foreign embassies and businesses seeking information relative to agricultural trade in the international market. * Lead country team meetings with participants from FAS program areas, overseas staff and relevant USDA agencies. * Guide the development and implementation of country strategies; analyze key trade and competitiveness issues; and contribute to significant agency policies, decisions, and determinations to accomplish the agency mission to expand and maintain international market opportunities for U.S. agriculture. * Perform specialized studies and program and policy support, and coordinate support for U.S. foreign and national security policy through evaluation of country strategy proposals. * Develop broad expertise in the countries you cover that encompasses an understanding of economic, political, social and demographic trends to develop sound strategic objectives for U.S. agricultural and food exports. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in marketing, business administration, political science, public administration, history, business or commercial law, economics, finance, international trade, or international relations or directly related field or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for this grade level. FOR THE GS-12 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-11 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates: * Working as a trade specialist and applying a high degree of technical skill, knowledge, and judgment pertaining to domestic and international trade laws and/or policies, international agricultural trade functions and services, and/or statutory provisions.
