  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    The Violence Prevention Manager reports to the Deputy Director and is part of a small but collaborative and dedicated team that is expected to expand over time. You will contribute to the development and execution of the short-term goals and the long-term objectives of the MOVR.

    Duties may include, but are not limited, to the following:

    · Assisting in providing, monitoring, and coordinating the provision of, comprehensive services to victims and witnesses, and those impacted by violence.

    · Helping to develop policies and procedures that further the city’s mission of reducing and preventing violence, especially in vulnerable communities at highest risk for gun violence and interpersonal violence.

    · Supporting the oversight functions of MOVR as it relates to the operations of violence prevention programs offered or supported by the city and county of San Francisco. This includes evaluating programs and reporting outcomes to the Mayor, the Board of Supervisors, and public stakeholders as well as making budget-related recommendations to the Deputy Director and Director of MOVR.

    · Advancing priorities through legislative or policy advocacy at the local, state, and/or federal level.

    · Working collaboratively with city departments involved in violence prevention efforts to ensure comprehensive and effective strategies are being implemented city-wide.

    · Improving the coordination and accessibility of community-based violence prevention services to ensure effective delivery to individuals and groups in need.

    · Supporting MOVR’s work to seek and obtain public and/or private funding opportunities for the purposes of furthering violence prevention work.

    · Preparing and/or reviewing reports and surveys of victims and those impacted by violence for the Director, Deputy Director, or other audiences as needed.

    · Working closely with department directors or authorized staff, and outside partners to explain or coordinate plans for proposed programs and initiatives.

    · Consulting and/or coordinating with public safety agencies with regards to violence prevention strategies.

    · Developing and performing community education and outreach in different settings and mediums.

    · Responding to requests for assistance (technical assistance, referral information, etc.) from government and nongovernmental organizations.

    · Supporting the recruitment, hiring, training and supervision of new MOVR staff as needed.

    · Other duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university

    AND

    Experience:4 years of full-time experience managing and executing operational plans, designing, implementing, and/or evaluating violence prevention programs.

    ** Substitution:**

    Qualifying experience performing professional-level administrative duties in functional areas such as: program/office/operations management, budget development and/or administration, or contract/grant administration may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. One (1) year (2000 hours) of qualifying experience will be considered equivalent to thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units

    Desirable Qualifications:

    · Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct work of subordinates.

    · Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and successfully on a team and with leadership and staff of external governmental and nongovernmental organizations.

    · Demonstrated critical thinking and problem analysis skills.

    · Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate and present information in public and private settings.

    · Understanding and experience with trauma-informed case management or other direct service provision.

    · Has undergone training to qualify as an advocate for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors or be willing to participate in such trainings as soon as possible

    · Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.

    · Demonstrated ability to prepare and present reports or presentations.

    · Experience in roles related to community outreach, social services, or public safety and prior work in violence prevention programs or similar initiatives.

    · Ability to lead team(s), and to develop a strategic vision for violence prevention in San Francisco.
