Kelaca is looking for a Designer I for our client partner in Tucson, AZ. This position is primarily responsible for producing a nearly complete set of structural construction drawings with minimal or no engineer-generated redlines or guidance other than design intent and normal project meetings, etc., that will serve as the basis for the engineers’ calculations and final redlines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Exceeds Drafter II position skills and duties.
- Creates, troubleshoots, and coordinates structural design in addition to generating, overseeing, and managing the drawings.
- Produces drawings efficiently and within project budget constraints.
- Creates a complete set of structural drawings (basic general notes, typical details, schedules, annotated plans with “placeholder” members, basic foundations, and framing details) prior to input by the engineer.
- Lays out structural systems and elements (grids, columns, joists, beams, braced frames, etc.) with prior input from Project Manager regarding systems selection and basic layout guidelines (e.g., bay dimensions and framing orientation).
- Coordinates the structural design with architectural and other disciplines, resolving conflicts to a reasonable degree and alerting engineers as needed.
- Attends and participates in client meetings as needed.
- Assists junior engineers in developing drawings on minor projects with Project Manager input.
- Creates and implements company standards.
- Oversees and trains junior engineering staff in construction document development.
- Devises solutions to AutoCAD and BIM (Revit) challenges.
- Reviews basic shop drawings.
- Estimates with reasonable accuracy the effort required (in hours) to complete drafting tasks.
- Performs structural as-built surveys of existing buildings, with or without an accompanying engineer.
- Performs limited structural special inspections, site investigations, etc., representing the Engineer of Record.
- Performs non-drafting tasks such as assisting engineers with field investigations, etc.
- Upholds the ethics and values of the company.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & EDUCATION:
- Associate’s degree (AS) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and more than four years of related experience using AutoCAD and BIM (Revit).
- Experience or prior training in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Adobe, Bluebeam, etc.).
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Knowledge of Database software; Design software; Development software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
One of the following certifications:
- Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD)
- American Design Drafting Association (ADDA) certification program for drafters
