Kelaca is looking for a Designer I for our client partner in Phoenix, AZ or Tucson, AZ. This position is primarily responsible for creating structural models and construction drawings in a deadline-focused production environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This role is a blend of BIM design and structural engineering, with emphasis on applied engineering judgement – not calculations.
- Creates and coordinates structural designs, producing efficient, budget-conscious drawings. Whenever possible, assists engineers by making preliminary design decisions such as framing sizes and orientation.
- Prepares a full set of structural drawings before engineer input, including grids, columns, foundations, and framing.
- Coordinates designs with architectural and other disciplines, resolving conflicts and notifying engineers as needed.
- Collaborates with engineers to share data between RISA and Revit models, such that duplicated modeling effort is reduced.
- Estimates drafting hours accurately.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Structural Engineering, or a related field, and some work experience.
- Software: AutoCAD preferred, Revit, and construction/engineering software. Must have some experience modeling in 3D – Revit preferred.
- Strong mathematical, reasoning, and communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
- Nice to have: Using computer programming to automate tasks.

- Occasionally lifts/moves up to 50 pounds.
- Requires clear vision, including depth perception and focus adjustment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Occasionally exposed to outdoor conditions.
- Typical noise levels are moderate.
