Kelaca is looking for an Engineer II for our client partner in Scottsdale, AZ. This position is primarily responsible for performing technical engineering work, making technical computations, and writing reports with greater efficiency/proficiency than an Engineer I and with less reliance on others.
Key Responsibilities:
• Has working knowledge of engineering theory, principles, methods, and materials utilized in the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings and other structures.
• Analyzes engineering problems.
• Speaks and writes clearly.
• Utilizes knowledge of drawings as a means of communicating technical information.
• Prepares structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards.
• Prepares written reports.
• Sketches structural details utilizing hand drawings, PDF editing software, CAD software, or modeling software as directed or at the discretion of the engineer.
• Edits structural drawings utilizing hand drawings, PDF editing software, CAD software, or modeling software as directed or at the discretion of the engineer.
• Plans and performs work that requires judgment in and application of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
• Utilizes good time management skills.
• Completes all assigned tasks by the deadline and close to or within budget. • Edits structural specifications.
• Reads and becomes familiar with architectural and other consultant plans and specifications.
• Coordinates work with other design disciplines (architectural, mechanical, electrical, etc.).
• Researches design options and documents findings.
• Reviews existing buildings and other structures for code compliance.
• Becomes familiar with most types of building materials and their associated design codes and standards.
• Attends and participates in client meetings.
• Estimates with reasonable accuracy the level of engineering and drafting effort (in hours) for most project types.
• Upholds the ethics and values of the company.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field from an accredited four-year college or university and more than two years of professional structural engineering experience. Possession of a Master’s degree (MS) in Civil Engineering or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of professional structural engineering experience.
• Minimum of an Engineering-In-Training (EIT) certification.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
• Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
• Advanced mathematical skills including exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
• Knowledge of Database software; Design software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software; Computer-Aided Drafting Software (AutoCAD in particular); Computer-Aided Modeling Software (Revit in particular), and Word Processing software.
Preferred Experience:
• Experience in preparing and editing structural specifications and coordinating work with other design disciplines.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
