Kelaca is looking for a Production Supervisor (Night Shift) for our client partner in Mebane, NC. The Production Supervisor will oversee all of the production operations of one specific product during his/her assigned shift. As a Production Supervisor you are responsible for the safety of your employees, the excellent quality of your product, and the realization of these targets in an efficient, productive way. These targets are reached by effective management and coaching of 20+ associates, confirming that all processing equipment and other machines in the packaging area are functional, ensuring that materials and supplies are in a positive flow, and ensuring that the packaging facilities, raw ingredients, and finished products adhere to quality and safety standards.
Additional duties include identifying areas for improvement and identifying training opportunities for the team and helping organize training events. A strong team mentality, exceptional communication skills, and proven ability to execute in a fast-paced environment are imperative.
Production Supervisors must be willing to work 12 hours per day on the normal 2-2-3 shift regime and be available for overtime as needed. Supervisors are passionate about leading by example and encouraging their team members to follow standards and requirements. Some supervisor positions will be on nightshift on a full-time basis. Weekend work is required across all shifts. Occasional travel may be necessary. A 10% shift premium is applied for all nightshift assignments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure good quality of our client’s products
- Manage your team to keep installations at high hygienic standards
- Actively guide your team to follow standard work and procedures to guarantee quality, safety, and performance
- Oversee production activity on all production lines during the assigned shift
- Supervise the team and follow up on the daily work output in the packaging area
- Ensure that daily KPIs of safety, quality, scrap, and production are met/exceeded
- Organize a smooth start-up and changeover to a new shift by actively engaging with supervisor of previous shift and maintenance technicians to ensure your team is aware of operational status and open technical and quality issues
- Build a strong relationship with the technical department and the tech(s) allocated to your shift
- Adjust schedule and work assignments at start of shift to account for unforeseen absences and tardies
- Coordinate rotation of team members during the shift, both to satisfy production needs and to promote cross-training
- Create training plans for new operators and monitor the quality of training delivered
- Monitor for proper operation of the production and processing equipment in the assigned areas and intervene when necessary to train, retrain, and coach team member performance
- Guide leads and operators in performing small technical interventions upon malfunction
- Evaluate operational and technical deficiencies that impact uptime; resolve issues when possible and escalate when quality issues or non-conformities arise
- Confirm that inspection tasks and registration are performed according to instruction
- Signal and register technical malfunctions and abnormalities of equipment, raw ingredients, finished product, and packaging material; escalate to maintenance as needed
- Report on daily shift performance and own improvement initiatives
- Exhibit TOP (Team Spirit, Open Dialogue and Passion) communication with operators in all areas and with technicians, material handlers, managers, and other team members on-shift about issues to be solved
- Lead labor-scheduling activities for your shift
- Complete reports of employee behavioral deficiencies or customer complaints
- Coach operators and support their professional development
- Approve/decline PTO requests from team members
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- 1 to 3 years of experience leading a small to mid-size team
- Food processing and/or bakery knowledge is a plus
- Familiarity with equipment operation and mechanical components
- Must be able to perform duties following all regulatory GMP/FSMA food hygiene practices
- Possess basic math skills
- Possess intermediate computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook
- Prior experience with leading and motivating a team in a production facility, ideally in an FDA-regulated environment
- Experience operating packaging and/or processing equipment is preferred but not required
- Experience with inspections and/or quality control is helpful
- Solid communication skills, both written and oral
- Experience with SAP a plus
