This position is part of a team responsible for Environmental, Health, Safety, and Transportation of Hazardous Material activities at a major complex of facilities. In the position you would be working with the Sites on training, document control, EHS support, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements EHS programs as necessary to ensure compliance, meet standards of the company ESMS (Environmental Safety Management System), and positive movement against EHS KPI’s. Works with EAS colleagues as well as business partners to implement programs at their assigned site(s)
- Provide day-to-day EHS support at a site or to a campus of sites. At this time, this includes the development and support of controls necessary for the site’s COVID-19 response.
- Support and provide coaching to employee-led teams such as Safety Committees, Green Teams, Near Miss Teams, and Behavior-Based Safety Teams.
- May provide oversight to interns or hourly employees in assignments supporting the EAS department. Conduct internal audits at own location as well as at other ELC sites. Represent their site(s) during internal and external audits. Assists with follow up and closure of actions items from audits.
- Conducts surveys of site operations and provides detailed recommendations for hazard elimination or control with limited supervision.
- May participate in and respond to regulatory inquiries and inspections of an environmental, health, safety nature or transportation of hazardous materials with support and supervision.
- Provides technical expertise to site management and/or advises EAS colleagues in EHS areas to ensure compliance with regulations and the implementation of programs targeted towards the prevention of injuries and in support of our sustainability goals.
- Develops and delivers assigned environmental, health and safety training. Update training in response to new legal requirements or changes at the sites; helps ensure training is relevant for the site(s).
- Manages the permitting process through the timely processing of all required permits with limited supervision.
- Access, analyze and collate environmental and safety performance data and reporting information to internal staff and regulatory bodies.
- Reviews information sources for new and/or changes to existing relevant laws, rules and regulations, and notifies management as appropriate.
- Reviews capital projects for environmental and safety impact and advises project team leaders as appropriate. May participate as a member of a capital project team
- Supports the Hazardous Material Transportation Program maintained by the Traffic, Export and or distribution department.
- Maintains competency and stays current in the profession of Environmental, Health, Safety, and the Transportation of Hazardous Materials.
- Participates as a member of a Global Process Owner (GPO) group focused on a particular program area to drive enhancements and consistency across ELC.
Qualifications
Minimum Education Level: University Degree
- 3-5 years experience in the area of environmental, safety, or industrial hygiene.
License/ Certifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or Safety Science, or Bachelors in Engineering or other Science/Technology.
- Prefer if either hold Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or similar designations, or be working towards such certification.
Requirements :
- Ability to work with a geographically dispersed team in diverse work environments from manufacturing, distribution, labs, offices, and retail.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills. Ability to adjust communication style based on the situation and the audience.
- Knows and uses fundamental and some advanced concepts, practices, and procedures of field of specialization. Ability to understand and communicate technical environmental and safety requirements to both EAS staff and our business partners.
- Grade 10 staff are generally part of an EAS staff with direct oversight but need the ability to work independently with limited supervision. Ability to implement tested concepts is required. Self-motivation, ingenuity and ability to drive best practice thinking is needed.
- Fluent in MS Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point applications
- Safety shoes, and safety vest to be worn as Personal Protective Equipment
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $62,500 to $98,000. Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results.
