  • Responsibilities

    Mechanic III Engineering requires positive outlook and high energy level for very fast paced stressful working environment. In addition to being resourceful and having excellent interpersonal skills, must be team oriented. Strong leadership abilities with the skill set to exercise independent judgment with respect to real or potential problems. Must possess a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems. Proficient in communicating both written and oral.

    Performs skilled work to maintain heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems for all facilities. Train less experienced HVAC mechanics on departmental standards.

    Key Roles & Responsibilities:

    50% - Must be able to make critical decision on repair priorities based on work assignments.

    • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair existing heating, ventilation, air conditioning system, compresses air and vacuum systems.
    • Inspects and maintains fire protection system and equipment.
    • Performs critical duties during plant emergency situations.
    • Uses programs and maintains building systems control software (Andover Controls).
    • Designs and fabricates parts for related tasks.

    20% - Must be able to work alone and or in a team environment.

    • Adheres to all plant safety procedures and practices; particularly are they relate to boilers and pressure piping.
    • Trains new employees on ELC practices and procedures within the department.

    20% - A detailed approach to problem solving as it pertains to critical equipment, utilities, or systems on a daily basis.

    • Participates in preventive maintenance programs and procedures for plant.
    • Advises management on current inventory status and the need for requisitioning parts and supplies.
    • Travel to multiple buildings within the campus

    10% - Assists management in evaluating new installation and equipment.

    Performs other duties as assigned and required.

    Qualifications:

    • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures, hot and cold, and must be able to life 50 lbs.
    • Must be able to read blueprints.
    • Must be able to use a computer, MS Office.
    • Must be able to maintain HVAC equipment up to 200 tons.
    • General mechanical knowledge of pumps, piping, valves, etc.
    • Must be able to learn Building Automation controls and programming.
    • 2 years of college, a plus/preferred; Trade school with HVAC preferred.

    The anticipated hourly range for this position is $21.50 to $36.00. Exact hourly rate depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Hourly range may vary based on geographic location. In addition to hourly rate, this position may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
