Position Summary

This program is an 11-week full-time opportunity that provides real work experience with a team in your business area. You will be aligned to projects to lead or contribute to while also participating in networking, development, and career exploration activities. Our Corporate Interns can apply for future full-time roles during the program and have an increased likelihood to receive an offer for a post-graduation role. 

The summer internship program is from May 28 – August 8, 2025.  

CVS Health follows a 3 day in office (generally Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) hybrid work model providing office-based colleagues the ability to flex between working in the office and working from home based on the work you need to accomplish. The other 2 days each week will be working remotely from home, office, or another location of your choice.  

Our office location for this role is Chicago, IL. A housing stipend may be provided, based on eligibility, and interns will be given the opportunity to connect with each other prior to the start of the program to coordinate housing if desired. The hourly rate is $27.50 per hour, with 40 hours per week, July 4th off (company holiday), and two days of paid leave.

The specific team within ISTS for this internship is the SMPL – Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning Team. "SMPL" (pronounced ‘simple’) involves simplifying IT practices with advanced analytics, machine learning and generative AI to democratize data, enhance transparency, improve strategic decision-making and streamline the user experience.

What you will do

Optimize and Enhance RAG Pipelines: Work on improving the accuracy and efficiency of Lumina's document search by fine-tuning retrieval and generation models, leveraging cutting-edge NLP techniques like transformer architectures and large language models.

Data Analysis and Model Evaluation: Conduct data analysis to identify performance bottlenecks, implement evaluation metrics, and test new algorithms to enhance search relevance and system scalability.

Collaborative AI Development: Collaborate closely with the GenAI development team to experiment with various data sources and architectures, driving innovation in Lumina’s next-generation search capabilities.

Work visa sponsorship is not available for this role. This includes participation in Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT), and F-1 Visa programs.

Required Qualifications

• Meet Education Requirements (see Education section)

• Experience programing with Python, including using Scikit-learn

• Experience in Git and version control

• Experience using Large Language Models (LLMs), including LangChain experience and building RAG systems 

• Experience with vector databases such as MongoDB Atlas or Pinecone

• Familiarity with concepts such as Agents, adding memory to LLMs, routing, moderating content, parsing output

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated leadership experience. Examples include active roles in student or social organization activities, sports, or school or work-related projects   

• Internship or work experience in a related field 

• An interest in obtaining full-time position within CVS Health upon graduation 

• Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and planning skills. Able to collaborate as part of a cross-functional Agile team. 

• Portfolio of LLM applications and sample projects

• Strong knowledge of data cleansing, NLP, parsing tools, regex, and optimization strategies for RAG. (using tools such as NLTK, SpaCy, and Beautiful soup)

• Current on the latest GenAI trends, frameworks, and coding practices.

• Experience in DevOps with Github Actions or similar CI/CD tools.

• Experience writing and deploying microservices

• Kubernetes experience

• Analytics experience designing dashboards in tools like Tableau or PowerBI

• Strong code refactoring and debugging skill

• Ability to Solve complex problems by writing and testing application code, developing and validating data pipelines, and automating tests and deployment

• Proficiency in designing and building in cloud environments such as Azure, GCP, or AWS

Education

• Currently pursuing a Master's degree program with an expected graduation date between December 2025 and August 2026 

• Preferred Majors incline Data Science, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Engineering, or related
