Are you a Bachelor's or Master's student looking for hands-on experience in counseling and mental health? Youth Outreach Services (YOS) is seeking CBT PSB Counseling Interns to support adolescents (ages 12-20) who have exhibited problematic sexual behavior. This program uses an evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) model to reduce recidivism and prevent juvenile justice involvement.
As a Counseling Intern, you will:
✅ Assist in individual, family, and group therapy sessions for youth.
✅ Receive training and consultation on the CBT PSB model.
✅ Shadow full-time staff in conducting assessments, treatment planning, and counseling.
✅ Maintain documentation and data collection for grant and funding requirements.
✅ Gain hands-on experience in a community-based mental health program.
✅ Advanced-level interns may carry their own caseload after training and shadowing.
This in-person internship provides valuable clinical experience while making a real impact on youth in the community.
Fall 2025 - Spring 2026 ( Two-semester commitment required )
Mandatory Training: Two-week training in August 2025 ( counts toward internship hours but not direct clinical hours ).
Available Schedules:
1st Year – Beginning Level (16-20 hrs/week):
✔ Tuesday 12-4 PM
✔ Wednesday OR Thursday 12-8 PM
✔ 4 additional flexible hours based on class schedule
1 internship available
2nd/3rd Year – Advanced Level (20+ hrs/week):
✔ Tuesday 12-4 PM
✔ Wednesday AND/OR Thursday 12-8 PM
✔ 4 additional flexible hours based on class schedule
2 internships available
⛔ No internship hours available on Fridays
Supervision Provided: Weekly supervision by LCSW and/or LCPC staff ( required even if supervision is provided by the intern's school ).
Team Meetings & Planning: Held on Tuesdays with ongoing training and consultation on the CBT PSB model.
Location: All internship hours are on-site at the YOS office in NW Chicago. Telehealth sessions cannot be conducted offsite.
Internship Duration: Semester-based ( Flexible start and end dates based on school requirements )
Unpaid Internship (Eligible for Academic Credit)
YOS is an approved site for many colleges/universities and can coordinate with your school. **

Beginning Level:
✔ Final year of Bachelor's program in human services OR 1st year of an accredited Master's program in social work, psychology, counseling, or marriage and family therapy.
Advanced Level:
✔ Final year of an accredited Master's program in social work, psychology, counseling (clinical, mental health, community), or marriage and family therapy.
✔ Previous counseling experience preferred.
Additional Preferences:
✔ Experience working with youth preferred.
✔ Spanish-speaking fluency is a plus!
✔ Reliable transportation to the office.
