The Medical Assistant serves as a member of the health team in the treatment and care of patients and assists with tasks to support the medical office. The position works under the supervision of an RN Supervisor. The Medical Assistant must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of human growth and development over the life span, ability to recognize data reflective of the patient's status and inform the Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse of his/her observations. + Rooms patients in accordance with PCMH standards with special attention to screening forms, surveys and pharmacy verification + Stocks medical supply inventory on a daily basis. + Monitors inventory of medical supplies and informs Nurse Manager to order when necessary. + Reports malfunctioning machinery to Administration. + Prepares equipment to efficiently draw blood. + Organizes patient flow, advises patients of delays or wait times, and accompanies patient to exam room. Acts as a chaperone as needed. Assists in the medical exam as needed. + Handles all clerical duties inclusive of providing telephone support, appointment maintenance, form completion and correspondence with insurance companies. + Provides physician support by checking and recording height, weight, pulse, blood pressure, pulse oximetry and temperature of patients. + Performs tests within the scope of their practice (i.e. EKG, eye tests) + Follows established procedures for infection control, patient care and safety that are in compliance with all federal, state and local standards and department protocols. + Performs venipuncture on patients as directed by the Physician following medical group practice protocols related to safety and infection control + Sets up and cleans exam room before, between and after patient visits. + All other related clerical duties as assigned by supervisor. + Performs other job-related duties as required. Required: + High School Diploma or GED Required + Successful completion of the curriculum in Phlebotomy from an accredited school; or two (2) years recent experience in the capacity of a Phlebotomist required.
