Assistant Director of Nursing, Skilled Nursing and Rehab (Full-time Days)
Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing assists in organizing and administrating the Department of Nursing. Assumes responsibilities delegated by the Director of Nursing and assumes duties of Director of Nursing in his/her absence.
The Assistant Director of Nursing must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the residents served – adult through geriatric. The Assistant Director of Nursing must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span; possess the ability to assess data reflective of the resident's status; interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each resident's requirements relative to their age-specific needs; and to provide the care needed as described in the Nursing Department's policies and procedures.
EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.
Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five (5) years experience as a Registered Nurse in a geriatric setting required.
Minimum of three (3) years experience in long term care management required.
Possession of a current license as a Registered Nurse as issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners.
Knowledgeable in Department of Health regulations
Excellent organizational, administrative, and analytical skills required.
Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective communication with staff, employees, and external agencies.
Comprehensive knowledge of general nursing theory required.
Must be able and willing to be available for all shifts along with on-call responsibilities, for twenty-four (24) hour call.
CPR certification must be obtained and maintained.
Assists in the responsibility for the 24 hour management of the Nursing Department including crisis intervention. Sets specific standards and objectives for the Nursing Department.
Performs all duties and function of a Registered Nurse. Assess resident conditions and nursing needs, and prescribes appropriate nursing action in crisis situations. Directs maintenance of resident care records.
Assists in review and evaluation of budget requests. Ensures proper and economic use of equipment, supplies and facilities for maintaining resident care.
Responsible for the investigation, recording and follow through of all incidents, accidents and variance reports.
Assists in establishing lines of authority and responsibility and in defining duties of nursing service personnel to assure that department objectives are accomplished. Maintains constant awareness of resident conditions by making rounds and utilizing team conferences.
Ensures facility maintains compliance with all regulatory programs.
Promotes and maintains harmonious relationships among nursing personnel and with medical staff, residents, and the public. Confers with supervisors and managers to discuss improvement of employee working relationships, conditions, and morale.
Assists in formulating departmental policies and procedures. Assists in evaluating nursing and related services rendered to improve quality of patient care.
Assists in hiring, disciplining, training and development, and evaluating the job performance of the Nursing Department staff.
Demonstrates nursing techniques as required. Assists in development of and participates in continuing education programs for nursing personnel. Participates in nursing student orientation. Responsible for maintaining staff clinical competency.
