GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing patients needs and coordinating clinical duties for their shift in order to provide quality patient care. The RN provides leadership, by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing staff and other patient care team personnel. The Registered Nurse maintains standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.
The Registered Nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit – adolescent through geriatric. The Registered Nurse must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span; possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status; interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs; and to provide the care needed as described in the Nursing Department's policies and procedures.
EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.
CRRN preferred.
Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing or equivalent work experience preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of two (2) years of satisfactory experience in a hospital/rehabilitative setting preferred.
SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a current license as a Registered Nurse as issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners.
Ability to interact and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing required.
CPR certification must be obtained and maintained.
Must be cleared by PA State Police criminal history check and PA Department of Public Welfare Child Abuse Central Register (Childline).
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized care appropriate to the age specific need and culture of the patient served.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Medium Work: duties require exerting 25 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally (approx 10-33% of shift), and/or 10-25lbs. of force frequently (approx 33-66% of the time), and/or greater than negligible amount up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, and move objects. Position involves bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting (occasionally in strained positions) throughout shift.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB:
Performs all functions of a registered nurse within the scope of practice as outlined by the regulatory agencies such as the PA State Board of Nursing and the Pa. Department of Health. Delivers nursing care according to the standards of care as outlined by the various associations such as The Association of Rehabilitation Nurses, Pennsylvania Nurses Association, and American Nurses Association Standards of Clinical Practice. On admission and daily, assesses and monitors patient’s physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative needs by collecting pertinent data using appropriate assessment techniques. Assists team members in giving care to patients, or administers direct care when professional nursing skills and judgement are needed. Assists in assigning nursing care to team members in accordance with the patient's needs and the personnel's capabilities and qualifications, and assigns other duties as needed. Assists in directing, supervising, and evaluating nursing care provided to patients. Determines priorities in care based on patient’s assessed condition and needs. Administers medications and performs treatments to assigned patients. Participates in unit rounds regularly. Assists with discharge planning as related to the nursing needs of the patient. Accurately completes the discharge instruction sheet. Makes referrals, including provisions for continuity of care as needed. Provides patient education needed.
