    Description

    The Wound Closure & Healing and Biosurgery R&D Organization in Raritan, NJ, is recruiting for R&D Co-ops and interns. Wound Closure & Healing and Biosurgery (WCHB) are a part of the Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery organization.The MedTech Organization, based in Raritan, New Jersey, was founded more than 80 years ago as a pioneer in suture development and manufacturing, helping to transform the safety and effectiveness of open surgery. The MedTech Organization offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies including— sutures, hemostasis products, surgical staplers, trocars, energy devices and synthetic mesh devices—that are used in a wide variety of minimally-invasive and open surgical procedures. Specialties include support for treatment of colorectal and thoracic conditions, women's health conditions, hernias, oncology, and obesity.This position will join the Analytical Characterization group within the company's R&D organization. You will perform hands-on experiments in the area of polymer characterization, wet chemistry, and chromatography, under the supervision of lab scientists and collaborating with other analytical associates. You will perform sample management and data curator under the supervision of lab managers. You will also participate in New Product Development project teams, interact with cross-functional R&D development associates, develop analytical methods, and deliver results to support product development.

    Key Responsibilities:

    The main responsibility for this position is to work with scientists to perform polymer characterization, wet chemistry, and chromatography in support of new product development and life-cycle management. The daily activities focus on

    • Sample preparation, testing, data collection, notebook recording, data analysis, and data reporting.
    • Logging in and managing samples submitted from the stability group
    • Practicing safe and environmentally sound laboratory techniques adhering to regulatory, local government, and safety guidelines.
    • Communicating clearly and concisely, through verbal and written reports.
    • Maintaining good documentation and lab notebook per company procedures, and FDA/ICH guidelines.

    Qualifications

    • Enrolled (not necessarily taking classes) in an accredited College/University during the Co-op session,
    • Pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields.
    • Only students who have completed their freshman year or above will be considered.
    • A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
    • Knowledge of basic chemistry lab skills is required.
    • Bench work experience in chemistry lab is helpful.
    • Good communication and writing skills are preferred.
    • Legal authorization to work in the United States and not require future sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H1-B status) now or in the future.
    • Ability to provide their own transportation to this work location.
    • Availability to work on site if the position requires it.
    • Availability to work full time (40 h/w) for the entire co-op or internship. Having a graduation date after the contract end date.

    Technical Degrees:

    The anticipated base pay for this position is Sophomore $25.00/hr, Junior $26/hr, Senior $28/hr, Master’s degree $33/hr. Business Degrees:

    The anticipated base pay for this position is Sophomore $22.00/hr, Junior $23/hr, Senior $24/hr, Master’s degree $30/hr.
