  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    1. Assists in the maintenance of equipment by proper cleaning, care and sterilization.

    2. Observes and watches the patient at all times, prior and post to induction, providing a safe environment through proper care and handling.

    3. Assists in maintenance, care and cleanliness of supplies.

    4. Assists in the inventory of supplies and equipment to assure availability and maintain set par level.

    5. Provides special equipment before, during and after a procedure according to need.

    6. Maintains traffic control through the use of proper areas and corridors at all times.

    7. Acts as preceptor for new orientees when requested.

    8. Wears appropriate clothing, hair coverings and masks in designated areas.

    9. Safely transports, transfers patients using appropriate body mechanics.

    10. Distributes supplies and equipment to suites as directed.

    11. Assists the surgical team when directed.

    12. Maintains awareness of safety hazards of equipment to prevent damage or harm to personnel and patients.

    13. Develops and promotes a constructive/positive atmosphere within the work area by demonstrating the ability to maintain cooperation with and assist fellow health team members.

    14. Serves on committees, task forces, process action teams, public relations activities and/or work groups on a voluntary and appointment basis at the division and/or hospital level.

    15. Demonstrates compliance with patient safety and risk management protocols.

    16. Reports problems and resolutions of problems regarding patients, team members, visitors, etc. to nurse and is able to recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations.

    17. Demonstrates self-directed learning initiatives and seeks ways to maintain current competency and respond to new clinical opportunities.

    18. Demonstrates skills and competencies for the preschooler, school age, adolescent, adult and elderly patient.

    19. Provides care in compliance with age-specific guidelines as outlined in departmental structural standards.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Education & Training: High School diploma or equivalent, ability to read, write and comprehend medical terminology. Completion of Anesthesia Technician Program preferred. ASATT certification preferred. Certification in BCLS required.

    Work Orientation & Experience: Knowledge of Aseptic Technique. Previous experience as a LPN, EMT or Anesthesia Technician preferred.

    Skills & Abilities: Ability to: a) effectively convey verbal and written information; b) follow directions; c) perform simple mathematical functions correctly; d) respond to emergency situations appropriately; e) effectively function as a member of a collaborative team; f) organize and manage time effectively, setting appropriate priorities; and g) adapt hours of availability to variable and changing needs of the hospital, including all shifts and manages inventory for anesthesia supply.
