    **Autopsy & Decendent Affairs Coordinator **

    Mon-Fri, 7a-3:30p, on call evenings and weekends Days

    Overview

    Under the general supervision of anatomical pathology management, coordinates and manages all aspects of patient death from receipt of body in the morgue with appropriate paperwork to final disposition of the deceased.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Ensures that all state and regulatory requirements are met, related to the handling and disposition of the deceased.
    2. Verifies correctness of the death certificate and autopsy consent. Contacts the provider or family when corrections are required and ensures that corrections are made in a timely manner.
    3. Releases bodies to the appropriate facility, maintains daily records and provides death policy in-service training to hospital staff, residents and attendings.
    4. Assists pathologists in the performance of post-mortem examinations, to include evisceration and restoration of the body. Maintains the autopsy suite and morgue area in compliance with safety and regulatory agency requirements.
    5. Develops and maintains excellent customer service relationships with external (i.e., funeral homes, OCME, law enforcement agencies, families, etc.) and internal customers; is available on-call to provide assistance with issues that may arise related to decedent affairs.
    6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education: **** High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. Bachelor's degree in Mortuary Science or completion of a Mortuary Technician program is preferred.

    ** Experience:** **** A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in laboratory science, mortuary science and/or organ procurement is preferred. Proficient knowledge of basic and advanced autopsy procedures, dissection and human anatomy is required. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
