Health Unit Coordinator I - Category: Nursing Support Staff - Facility: Boca Raton Regional Hospital - Department: 7th Floor - Orthopedics - Schedule: Full time - Shift: Day Shift - Hours: 6:30am - 7:00pm - Job Description Position Summary: The Health Unit Coordinator assists the staff by providing accurate, timely medical order transcription, utilizing the computerized order entry system, acting as receptionist and caring for department office equipment and supplies as directed. Position Expectations & Responsibilities: - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. - Proficient in all computer software utilized for order entry and patient care, including but not limited to Care Manager, STAR, and intranet and Internet applications. - Transcribe physician orders accurately and completely and in a timely manner using the computerized order entry system and unit specific forms. - Post diagnostic test results in the proper section of the patients' charts. - Prepare and review charts for completeness for admissions, discharges, transfers, expirations and procedures. - Maintain clerical, unit and dietary supplies per unit policy. - Demonstrate understanding and commitment to patient and co-worker confidentiality. - Respond to patient requests in a timely, professional, friendly manner. - Prioritize and organize tasks in a logical and efficient manner. - Exhibit calm responsiveness to emergency or stressful situations. - Follow through on physician orders in a timely manner, notifying other departments as needed. - Maintain accurate, complete, legible records and logs as requested per unit. - Relay calls of a medical nature to the RN, convey messages accurately and promptly to the appropriate person. Minimum Education and/or Experience: - Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills - High school diploma or general education degree (GED) - One year of related experience preferred - BLS certification from the American Heart Association - Must have taken EKG class (for those employees in the Emergency Services Department) - Certificate of Completion of Health Unit Coordinator training program *Incumbent may be required to perform emergency duty before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency, crisis situation or disaster (man-made or natural) including evacuation sites. *The person in this position will work in a smoke-free location, and is expected to adhere to all smoking restrictions. *In the spirit of wellness for both our employees and patients, Boca Raton Regional Hospital has instituted a mandatory influenza prevention vaccination program.
