    Position Summary:
    We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a CT Technologist - Per Diem Variable Day Shifts; rotating schedule/weekends - Cat Scan - Radiology-Ca.

    In this role, the successful candidate Provides health care services, applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by; or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. The computed tomography technologist must demonstrate an understanding of human cross-section anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology. By performing all tasks in an efficient, responsible and caring manner, the employee will be dedicated to meet the needs of customers and staff. In doing so, will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care with respect to the special needs of each patient age group serviced as well as those persons with disabilities

    Job Responsibilities:

    1. **Operates CT equipment in accordance with State and Federal codes by:**
    * Selecting appropriate program for the desired protocol including correct exposure factors and pilot size
    * Altering scanning parameters to improve the quality of the procedure
    * Selecting various power-up techniques as appropriate including routine, nonroutine and fast activation
    * Selecting appropriate scan field of view and display field of view
    * Selecting the appropriate film format and algorithms
    * Selecting proper windows and levels
    * Using immobilization devices and equipment within the recommended safety guidelines
    2. **Positions patient for proper orientation of anatomy by**
    * Positioning patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest
    * Respecting patient ability and comfort
    * Identifying and removing any artifact-producing objects i.e.: dentures, chest leads, jewelry, clothing or hearing aids
    3. **Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others by:**
    * Using appropriate radiation safety devices, including the proper wearing of required personal radiation monitoring devices. 
    * Selecting proper exposure factors
    4. **Evaluates images for technical quality by:**
    * Manipulating display parameters
    * Providing hard copy records, as required
    * Assuring proper identification recorded
    * Maintaining archival storage of digitized data as appropriate
    * Checking exam prior to ending, to insure compliance with prescribed protocols i.e.: complete anatomy, appropriate selection of technique and slice thickness, use of appropriate contrast media, etc.
    5. **Displays proper procedures for the preparing, labeling and dispensing of radiographic contrast media and the labeling of medications on the sterile field by:**
    * Determining the need for oral and/or I.V. contrast media based upon the written physician’s order and the written departmental protocols
    * Selecting the appropriate type of oral contrast media
    * Preparing the oral contrast media based upon written departmental protocols
    * Labeling oral contrast media based upon written departmental policies
    * Instructing the patient as to the proper method of ingestion
    * Loading the power injector with the appropriate type and amount of I.V. contrast media based upon written departmental protocols
    * Properly labeling all required medications located on the sterile field as required by written departmental policies
    6. **Verifies informed consent, completes Site Verification forms and assists licensed practitioner during interventional CT procedures, applies aseptic surgical techniques. Evaluates requisition by:**
    * Identifying patient
    * Identifying procedures to be performed
    * Checking chart or RX for order
    * Verifying pertinent clincal history and reason for exam
    * Determining utilization of appropriate personal protective equipment (gloves, mask, gown, eye shields)
    * Reviewing request for verification of pregnancy Y/N status, if appropriate
    * Demonstrating proper understanding and use of Cyracom phone system for language interpretation purposes.
    
    7. **Provides patient care by:**
    * Verifying patient identification/checking wristband
    * Introducing himself/herself to the patient
    * Briefly explaining the procedure
    * Verifying if patient is properly prepped for the exam
    * Verifying that there are no contraindications for performing exam, including lab values, prior to placing the patient upon the scan table
    * Providing appropriate assistance onto and off of the imaging table, based upon patient's condition
    8. **Maintains patient care by:**
    * Maintaining patient dignity and modesty through proper gowning and covering for the patient
    * Talking with the patient in a concerned, professional manner (age appropriate)
    * Utilizing standard precautions and transmission-based precautions
    * Providing proper instructions for moving and breathing 
    * Assessing the patient’s condition at regular intervals
    * Providing for the patient’s safety and security while in the department
    9. **Operates functions of HIS/RIS and PACS in accordance with hospital and department policy by:**
    * Performing all tracking and other functions appropriate to their job
    * Consistently sending all images to PACS in a timely fashion
    10. **Performs Daily Quality Assurance activity based upon established departmental protocol by:**
    * Demonstrating a knowledge and understanding of the daily Quality Assurance testing criteria
    * Performing daily Quality Assurance testing on any CT scanner prior to its’ initial use each day or upon tube change and documenting same
    * Providing hard copy evidence of such
    11. **Demonstrates and Maintains a Professional Demeanor by:**
    * Arriving at work station prepared to begin shift, in a timely fashion and in the prescribed and appropriate uniform
    * Communicating proper report to the oncoming shift members
    * Waiting to be formally relieved prior to departing work station
    * Performing all tasks and functions in keeping with the Standards for Service Excellence program
    

    Minimum Qualifications:
    To qualify you must have a Current New York State licensure to practice Diagnostic Radiology
    Certified by and Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). BLS required.
    Completion of a two year approved ARRT school.
    Completion of required CT specific CE credits

    Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $54.72 - $54.72 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
