Inpatient and outpatient surgical services are offered at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and Highsmith-Rainey Specialty Hospital. The Main OR and Short Stay Center are located on the Medical Center Campus and SurgiCare is located at Highsmith-Rainey, also in Fayetteville. There are eight surgical suites in the main OR, five in Short Stay and three in SurgiCare. The Operating Rooms in the Main OR are used for vascular, thoracic, trauma, general, neuro, orthopedic, ENT, gynecological, bariatric, Robotics and Microwave surgeries. There are also two specialty suites for urological surgery. Short Stay Center specializes in gynecological cases as well as other outpatient procedures. SurgiCare focuses on opthamology, general and pediatric dentistry. Cape Fear Valleys bariatric surgery program has been designated a Center of Excellence by the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons. Cape Fear Valleys orthopedic surgery program is rated as one of the best in the nation by HealthGrades. We encourage our nurses to become OR Certified and join the AORN. The health system pays for our nurses to take the CNOR exam. Job Summary Assists in carrying out the patient's plan of care by performing assigned tasks within scope of practice of the surgical technologists and according to the unit guidelines of care, facility policies and procedures, nursing policies and procedures, and legal limitations. Transports and escorts patients to various areas of the hospital and for discharge. Assists with the maintenance, selection and preparation of instruments, equipment and supplies necessary to maintain a state of readiness for operative cases. Fosters guest relations within the team and with patients and families. Maintains confidentiality of all patient information. Performs other task and duties as assigned to meet the patient care and/or unit goals. Supports patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of the plan of care. Adjusts patient care based on the age-specific physiological and psychosocial needs of patients. Assists with completing charges for patient services and participates in cost containment. Participates in educational and performance improvement activities. Tolerates long hours and work variable shift. Requires extensive standing, walking, bending, lifting, transferring of anesthetized patients, and pushing heavy equipment and patients. Requires manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, and visual and auditory acuity. Job Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent. Completion of Surgical Technologist Course from an Accredited CAHEA Program preferred. Experience in lieu of formal training will be considered. Prefer one year experience as a surgical technologist.
