Overview
Certified peer specialists are individuals who have lived experience with mental illness and are certified and trained to be direct service mental health staff. Certified Peer Support Specialists work alongside clients, using their own lived experience with mental illness to teach skills to enhance psychiatric stability, social competencies, personal and emotional adjustment, and independent living and community skills, when these abilities are impaired by the symptoms of mental illness.

The Certified Peer Support Specialist works as part of an integrated treatment team, adhering to standards to serve adults and children diagnosed with mental illness by doing the following:
