This position is with the Air Quality Program within the City of Lincoln/Lancaster County Health Department. Seeking an individual with considerable experience in writing air quality construction and operating permits, or with considerable knowledge of air quality regulations. The ideal candidate will be team oriented, have strong customer service skills and have a passion to work collaboratively with businesses, the public, and other agencies to promote and protect public health. Primary work duties include writing air quality construction and operating permits. Secondary work duties include: assisting with compliance inspections at regulated businesses and industries, responding to air quality and noise complaints, providing technical assistance to businesses and the public, and other duties as assigned. May serve on hazardous materials response team. The ability to conduct inspections in facilities may require climbing stairs and ladders; exposure to hostile environments (i.e. heat, cold, and chemical odors); working at extreme heights; the dexterity to maneuver in confined areas; and the manual dexterity to perform monitoring and testing; and the ability to carry the necessary equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with major course work in environmental science; environmental health; environmental engineering; or biological, chemical, physical sciences; or related field; and at least 2 years experience in progressively responsible environmental science work; or equivalent. Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a valid driver's license when operating a vehicle may be necessary to the satisfactory performance of assigned duties.
