    PUBLIC WORKS INSPECTOR I Salary Negotiable Location LOUISVILLE, KY Job Type Full-Time Department Public Works Job Number 05381 Closing 12/26/2018 11:59 PM Eastern Description ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Inspects construction of roadways, sidewalks, and appurtenances; within public right-of-way Ensures compliance with local ordinances and plans and specifications Answers questions and provides information to the public Examples of Duties UNDER ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISION Reviews construction and planning drawings, and analyzes and interprets blueprints and other technical information Responds to the public regarding right-of-way questions and problems Inspects sites proposed for right-of-way closure and submits recommendations Measures distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of installations and layouts Verifies levels, alignment, and elevation of installations, using surveyor's level and transit Observes work in progress to ensure that procedures are followed and materials used conform to plans & specifications Prepares samples of materials for laboratory testing Records quantities of materials received or used during specified periods Maintains daily log of construction and inspection activities and compares progress reports Computes monthly estimates of work completed and approves quantities Conducts site distance, sidewalk, right-of-way obstructions, Handicap parking zone and fire hydrant inspections Performs bond release inspections, reviews claims, gathers information for legal proceedings, and testifies in court Enforces local ordinances Performs related work Minimum Requirements High school diploma or the equivalent and two years of experience in public works construction or other construction. EQUIVALENCY An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license Must be on 24 hour call Must enroll in the University of Kentucky Technology Transfer Program (Road Scholars- Road Masters) upon employment SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must possess or obtain American Concrete Institute (ACI) Level 1, Aggregate Sampling Technician, Grade Level 1 Technician, and Asphalt Field Technician certifications within six months of employment PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work Lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds in a team setting Must be able to work in extreme varying weather conditions Walking, bending, stooping, climbing is required to access varying type of terrain including confined spaces and elevated surfaces Supplemental Information NU 9 EOE Louisville Metro Government is committed to providing our employees with the tools they need to lead a fit and healthy life.
