    I Am Abiomed | I Am Heart Recovery | Patients First!

    In this role, you will be an integral part of a small, dynamic team focused on pioneering the next generation of Abiomed Optical sensors and console hardware. Working closely with experienced engineers in our state-of-the-art labs, you will support the design, development, and testing of optical systems that make a tangible impact on patient care.

    Qualifications

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide technical support for optical system design and development initiatives.
    • Assist in the prototyping, assembly, and testing of optical components and systems.
    • Fabricate and assemble optical prototypes with the support of the technical team and suppliers.
    • Conduct tests on optical systems, analyze data, and report results to the engineering team.
    • Work closely with engineers to refine designs based on test results and performance criteria.
    • Assist in the preparation and review of technical documents, including specifications, test plans, and reports.
    • Maintain and operate lab equipment, ensuring accurate and reliable testing conditions.
    • Collaborate with internal and external manufacturing partners to ensure producible designs (DFM).
    • Ensure compliance with company quality policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

    Job Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma required.
    • AS or BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a directly related scientific discipline preferred.
    • 2-4 years of experience desired, including roles such as assembler, maintenance technician, dental practices, jewelry, or other hands-on roles.
    • Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking.
    • Hands-on experience with optical assembly, testing, and troubleshooting.
    • Strong understanding of optical components, such as lenses, mirrors, and detectors.
    • Proficiency in using optical test equipment, such as spectrometers, light sources, and power meters.
    • Basic understanding of electrical circuits and experience with electronic test equipment.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Machining or other fabrication experience desired.
    • Proficient in English in both verbal and written communication.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in the medical device industry.
    • Knowledge of optical design software (e.g., Zemax, Code V).
    • Familiarity with cleanroom procedures and practices.
    • Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks).
    • Understanding of regulatory standards and design controls.
