    Job Description

    _ General Summary_

    Under general supervision, distributes, repairs, cleans, and maintains clinical equipment and supplies utilized throughout the Medical Center.

    _ Principal Responsibilities and Tasks_

    The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

    1. Coordinates and manages the procurement, maintenance, repair and distribution of clinical equipment (e.g., pumps, beds, infusion pumps, infant warmers) in accordance with departmental procedures.

    A. Works in conjunction with Biomedical Engineering Technicians when appropriate for the repair and maintenance of clinical equipment.

    B. Coordinates with clinical departments for the management, exchange, and distribution of equipment requiring maintenance or repair.

    C. Rotates equipment for routine maintenance and preventative maintenance.

    D. Ensures proper storage of equipment when not in use.

    E. Verifies accuracy of equipment received by comparing receiving documents to supplies received, verifying type and quantity as applicable.

    F. Performs computer data entry as departmental needs dictate.

    2 Performs routine, general preventative maintenance and repair work in accordance with departmental procedures. Works in conjunction with Biomedical & Clinical Engineering as necessary.

    A. Repairs medical equipment such as crash cart accessories, replace wheels, and IV Poles.

    B. Ability to safely operate electric drills and other hand tools.

    C. Perform minor repairs to office equipment as necessary.

    3. Inspects, assembles, and prepares equipment for cleaning and decontamination in accordance with hospital Safety and Infection Control practices and procedures.

    A. Cleans equipment prior to inspection and storage.

    B. Follows hospital procedures for handling of clean equipment to minimize risks of cross-contamination.

    C. Wears proper attire and protective garments when cleaning and disinfecting clinical equipment.

    D. Exercises safe handling practices in handling potentially hazardous equipment to prevent personal injury.

    E. Complies with safety requirements regarding chemical exposure.

    4. Assists with retrieval of contaminated equipment from patient care areas for disinfection and cleaning. Practices proper techniques in the containment and handling of contaminated equipment and supplies to prevent cross-contamination and injury, in accordance with safe handling procedures.

    A. Cleans and restocks specialty equipment and carts (e.g., PAPR’s, crash carts, incubators and intubation boxes) as appropriate, in accordance with departmental procedures.

    B. Responds to customer service requests and provides assistance to user departments related to equipment distribution. Problem- solves to assist user in locating equipment needed.

    C. Communicates with EQD Team Lead & Manager regularly regarding damaged or missing equipment.

    D. Maintains a clean, neat and safe work are by keeping the floors clear of debris, and assuring items are in the designated storage location.

    E. Observes UMMS and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality management, environmental, infection control, security, safety standards and complies with codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies, as appropriate.

    _ Education and Experience_

    1. High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.

    2. 2 – 3 years’ experience as an Equipment Distribution Technician required

    _ Knowledge, Skills and Abilities_

    1. Ability to read, write, speak English and perform simple mathematical operations for inventory purposes, including: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

    2. Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions in a timely, accurate, and effective manner. Ability to adhere to departmental chain of command procedures.

    3. Ability to adapt to and learn new concepts and techniques and utilize knowledge in daily work practices.

    4. Proficient knowledge of general equipment maintenance and repairs.

    5. Effective verbal communication skills are required to work with management, hospital personnel, vendors and various technical staff. Effective writing skills are required to maintain documentation of maintenance and repairs.

    6. General computer knowledge, and basic skills.

    Pay Range: $21.68-$26.72
