    We are searching for the best talent for an Experienced Scientist, Pathobiology PSTS to be in San Diego, CA.

    Purpose: This is a scientific position within the Pathobiology group within the Preclinical Sciences and Translational Safety (PSTS) organization. This group is responsible for the generation of spatial tissue section based data to support preclinical development and safety of J&J drugs. In this role, the Scientist will be providing technical support to the team with histological techniques' (microtomy, tissue trimming, processing, embedding), assay development of chromogenic immunohistochemistry assays, and tissue culture.

    You will be responsible for:

    • Perform routine histology workload with minimal supervision, including but not limited to tissue trimming, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining (H&E, special stains, slide scanning and development of molecular pathology assays such as localization of target genes and proteins using immunohistochemical and in situ hybridization staining).
    • Perform cell culturing and FFPE cell pellet making from positive/negative control cell lines.
    • Effectively works in teams and collaborates closely with Pathologists and other scientists within various functional groups.
    • Assists with the maintenance of laboratory records and master schedule/calendar.
    • May perform various rodent (rat, mouse) in vivo tissue collection for process optimization.
    • Creates study documentation (i.e. select data files, reports, and/or data summaries).
    • Performs timely inventory and lab supply orders.
    • Coordinates materials and biological sample shipping and handling.
    • Comply with general guidelines including good lab practices in support of raw data (paper) archive and specimen transfer process.

    Qualifications:

    Education:

    • Minimum of BS Degree in biology or related science field (HT/HTL certification is a plus) is required.

    Required:

    • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a pharmaceutical, biotech, or academic setting
    • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience with routine histology, and immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization staining is required.
    • Proficiency with microtomy of formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissues and frozen tissues.
    • Knowledge of histology and different histological techniques and stains.
    • Proficiency with tissue trimming, processing, embedding, slide staining and slide scanning.
    • Experience with automated histology and automated stainers (Leica Bond RX, or Ventana Discovery Ultra).
    • Experience with assay development of immunohistochemistry assays.
    • Experience with running in-situ hybridization assays (RNAscope) using automated systems.
    • Broad scientific knowledge in background literature research and sourcing of optimal antibodies, antibody optimization, cross-reactivity studies, protocol development, optimization and validation are required.
    • Good problem-solving technical skills in histology and molecular pathology are required.

    Preferred:

    • Experience in necropsy of mouse/rat tissues.
    • Proficiency in aseptic technique and tissue culture.
    • Experience in developing multiplex IF assays is a plus.
    • Familiarity with HALO AI or Visiopharm is a plus.

    The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

    $89,000 to $143,750.

    Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

    The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)). This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
