Somali Interpreter Fairview Health Services 169 reviews - Minneapolis, MN Responsibilities/Job Description The qualified candidate will provide system-wide foreign language interpreting (verbal) and translation (written) to enable understanding and successful communication between Somali speaking patients/families with Limited English proficiency (LEP) and providers and staff. The candidate will adhere to medical interpreter standards of practice and code of ethics. They will provide education and consultation to both providers and patient families on culturally specific values, beliefs, and practices that are relevant to the health care encounter. They will support the Interpretive Services program through working constructively in a team, participating in program functions, and performing other programmatic tasks as requested by the manager. The qualified candidate will document required information and data accurately and in a timely manner. Qualifications Education: Minimum Education * Participant in the Minnesota Department of Healths Interpreter Roster. * 40 hours of formal training or college level courses in medical interpreting. * Preferred Education * Associate degree or 2 years of college education in linguistics, health or social sciences. * Bachelors degree in linguistics, health or social sciences.
