    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C., a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is recruiting for industrial pharmacy rotational students as part of the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) program in 2020 to support Biotherapeutics Drug Product Development (DPD) to be based in Malvern, PA.  

    There are many career opportunities available to today’s pharmacists. The purpose of this rotation is to expose the senior pharmacy student to the field of Biological Drug Research. Most importantly, this APPE rotation will provide students with an opportunity to work alongside a practicing pharmacist providing meaningful input for the development of the biological formulation development. In addition, students will learn the various issues surrounding the field of biological formulation development and work with other relevant department within Janssen.  

    The APPE rotational student will support activities related to the Biotherapeutics drug product design and administration within Biotherapeutics Drug Product Development department. The incumbent will support projects related to the Pharmacy Manual Studies including drug product design and development of Investigational Product Preparation Instructions (IPPIs). 

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Providing support to areas of drug product design, dosage preparation, administration and instructional training.
    • Support the collaboration with DPD Formulation Scientists, Study Managers and Pharmacists to ensure that the IPPI protocol can be flawlessly executed at clinical sites for Phase 1 to Phase 3 clinical studies
    • Support the creation of workflows for drug product in-use stability/compatibility studies
    • Support the creation of IPPIs and for use at clinical study sites
    • Support the creation, execution and reporting of Pharmacy Manual Studies.
    • Provide effective communication with internal team members on supported projects
    • Critically review literature pertaining to biological drug product development.
    • Effectively communicate with preceptors and members of the health care team regarding biological drug development process.
    • Benchmark our practices to reflect standard clinical pharmacy practices and provide tactical/scientific recommendations to project scientists
    • Utilize clinical data to formulate rational pharmaceutical care plans as related to biologics.

    Students will gain knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

    • The design aspects of phase appropriate investigational study materials as it relates to the use at clinical sites
    • Pharmaceutical and/or clinical drug development
    • Scientific process that are used to deliver compounds to patients.
    • Familiarity with the clinical trial design.
    • Biologics drug dosing design and administration in various clinical development stages.
    • The drug development process from discovery through product commercialization.  
    • Provided the opportunity, observe and/or participate in cross functional team and how other departments operate.
  • Qualifications
    • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now, or in the future (ex. H1-B, F-1)
    • Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college of pharmacy throughout the duration of the rotation.
    • Completion of a minimum of 5 years towards a degree in a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) is required. 
    • Previous co-op or internship experience is preferred.
    • Student must be available in 2020 and have the ability to work full-time during the duration of the rotation.
    • PC based skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project and PowerPoint. 
    • Students must be able to provide their own housing and transportation to/from their work location.
