    J&J R&D encompasses the development of sophisticated materials, process improvements, risk management and mechanical testing through the development process across all sectors including Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, Consumer and Corporate/Enterprise. We offer a fast-paced cross-functional, technologically advanced, corporate environment, passionate about developing individual engineering and scientific skills.

    Life as an R &D Intern:

    The R&D Intern program provides each student with real-life hands-on experience, coaching and mentoring, networking opportunities, as well as the opportunity to meet people from various schools throughout the country. Each Intern will be assigned to a single function with a specific project for the 3 month term.

    The typical Summer Intern term is from May/June 2025 – August/September 2025.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • This Intern position will support the API Proteins group within Therapeutics Development and Supply. The Intern will.
    • Work with team members in the development of Cell Culture Development strategies for the production of protein therapeutics.
    • Analyze and interpret experimental results using analytical and statistical techniques. Actively participate in weekly meetings with internal and external collaborators.
    • Participate in technical discussions on design of experiments to fill gaps in knowledge.
    • Maintain a laboratory notebook and other technical documents according to required guidelines.
    • Provide other project support as needed.

    Qualifications - External

    Education :

    • Analytical chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, biological engineering, and related majors are preferred.
    • Candidates must be actively enrolled in an accredited University for the duration of a co-op assignment pursuing a Bachelor’s or equivalent experience, Master’s, or PhD degree or equivalent experience.
    • Minimum GPA of 2.8 is required.
    • Completion of Undergraduate Freshmen year at an accredited University is required.

    Experience and Skills:

    • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
    • Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative skills is required
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills are preferred
    • Ability to balance multiple projects and initiatives while performing results
    • Must be a self-starter works independently while supplying to the team goals
    • Proven leadership/participation with campus programs and/or community service activities is desired

    Preferred:

    • For students pursuing their Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, Juniors or Seniors are preferred.
    • Students with basic laboratory skills and experience in research, experimental design & execution, technical writing, data analysis, and hands-on experience in cell culture and aseptic techniques and other relevant lab techniques is preferred.
