    Responsibilities

    The Lab and Imaging Reception / Registration position at Petersburg Medical Center deals with a multitude of duties for the Lab and Radiology departments, filling in for a combined nursing unit, check-in for labs / imaging, scanning and maintaining medical records documents, pre-authorizations, data entry and coding. Some of these duties include general clerical tasks (answering and making phone calls, copying, filing), general reception tasks (welcoming and working with patients, scheduling procedures, and directing guests), working with medical records, noting and obtaining clarification of physician's orders, assisting in inventory and ordering supplies. Lab and Imaging Reception / Registration works extensively with the public.

    Qualifications

    • Excellent customer service skills, polite and friendly manner, good telephone etiquette.
    • Strong computer skills, excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
    • Ability to stay calm in fast-paced, high-stress situations.
    • Ability to multitask and follow tasks through completion. Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Understanding of the confidential nature of a medical facility.
    • Familiarity with terminology is a plus.
    • Additional duties as assigned.

    Physical Environment

    Hazardous exposure - no exposure to blood, bodily fluids or tissues routinely, but potential for exposure at times. Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds force occasionally and / or negligible amount of force to frequently lift, carry push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

    Physical Requirement

    • Constant inside work, reaching at / below the shoulder, handling, use of acuity (near and far), depth perception, color discrimination, peripheral vision, taking and hearing.
    • Frequent standing, sitting, walking.
    • Occasional stooping, kneeling, squatting, exposure to dampness, outside work, lifting, lowering, pushing, carrying, reaching above, feeling, exposure to chemicals, gas and dust.

    Equipment Use

    Office equipment, computers (various programs), telephone, printers, copy machine, fax, etc.

    Supervisory

    Reports directly to the Laboratory Manager.

    Qualifications

    High school diploma or equivalent, with some college preferred. Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and activities simultaneously. Must possess independent decision-making abilities, as well as considerable judgement and initiative to determine the approach or action to take in non-routine situations. Gathering sensitive information or confidential reports. Musts possess the ability to convey a professional image and soothing personality.
