    The Robotics and Digital solutions (RAD) group, part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is recruiting for a Mechatronics Engineering Intern for the Strategic Robotics R&D Team. This position is located in Santa Clara, CA. What we do:

    The Strategic Robotics R&D team envisions a future for robotic intervention that is targeted, minimally invasive, and personalized. Building upon a deep understanding of patient and physician needs, we are developing a platform for the next evolution of soft-tissue robotic care. Who we are:

    We are a team of clinical, electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, robotic controls, and software engineers who are passionate about improving patient care. The team includes a wide range of experience levels from junior engineers to industry experts. We follow an iterative design approach to product development that requires us to collaborate closely across clinical, instruments, accessories, and capital hardware teams.     As a member of the Strategic Robotics R&D team you will join us on our journey to design and build one of the world's most advanced medical robotic platforms. You will work alongside all engineering functions to make contributions in the system integration, motor characterization, algorithms creation, and more. This role offers a high degree of autonomy and opportunities for growth within the team as we progress towards realizing our vision.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Assist with joint bring up, motor tuning, sensor testing, documentation for testing.
    • Coordinate with different teams and coworkers to accomplish tasks.
    • Participate in the clinical assessments of robotic devices in inanimate anatomical models

    Qualifications

    Education:

    Currently enrolled in an accredited program pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in Mechatronics Engineering or similar degree and returning to an academic program after the completion of the internship.

    Experience and Skills:

    Required:

    • Self-starter with a proven track record of engaging in self-directed learning and remaining productive with minimal direction
    • Basic understanding of sensors and motors.

    Preferred:

    • Microcontroller coding (e.g. Arduino)
    • Prior internship or Co-op experience recommended
    • Robotics or medical device experience preferred

    Other:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Must have work authorization in the United States at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

    The anticipated base pay for this position for candidates in a Robotics discipline is Sophomore $31.00/hr, Junior $34.50/hr, Senior $38.00/hr, Masters $45.00/hr, PhD $59.00/hr.

    The anticipated base pay for this position for candidates in other Engineering disciplines (not Robotics) is Sophomore $28.50/hr, Junior $30.00/hr, Senior $32.00/hr, Masters $38.00/hr, PhD $42.50/hr.

    This position is ineligible for severance.
