    Job Summary

    The Medical Assistant II is responsible for specimen collection, processing, testing, reporting, and quality control in a kind and caring manner.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    · Properly start lab equipment daily; run and document controls; perform maintenance and cleaning of equipment as scheduled per written protocols.

    · Greet patients upon encounter, verify patient identity at each encounter, explain procedures to be performed, obtain verbal consent, and address patient questions and concerns.

    · Manage difficult or emotional patient situations, respond promptly to customer needs.

    · Treat people with respect, inspire trust of others, work with integrity, and uphold organizational values.

    · Collect specimen from the patient utilizing the approved equipment, sequence and procedure.

    · Draw blood from patient's finger, ear lobe, or vein, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.

    · Follow established procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient results.

    · Perform authorized tests within the technician's skill level as determined by education, training or experience and technical abilities.

    · Report results timely and notify providers of abnormalities.

    · Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or results and follow procedures for the reporting and correction of deviations.

    · Document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.

    · Adhere to laboratory quality control procedures and document all Quality Control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and instrument maintenance.

    · Conduct proficiency testing and maintain records which demonstrate that such testing is conducted in the same manner as patient testing.

    · Utilize lab software, electronic medical records, and any other lab equipment according to the proper procedure and instruction.

    · Observe safety and security procedures. Report potentially unsafe conditions to management.

    · Respond promptly to customer needs; Respond to requests for service and assistance.

    · Regular attendance to ensure efficient clinic operations.

    · Order and stock supplies weekly.

    · Perform drug screening collection procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations.

    · The incumbent of this position will be responsible for Medical Assistant and other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications:

    · Phlebotomy certification preferred

    · Medical Laboratory Technician degree preferred

    · High school degree or equivalent

    · 6 months to 1 year of related experience or training preferred
