Days/hours may vary based on the need of the department. The Massage Therapist provides therapeutic massages to hospitalized cancer patients and occasional coverage of fee-for-service outpatient appointments. Massages will be provided in increments of half or full-hour visits. This position must be able to skillfully adapt techniques, review and document in electronic health records, and communicate with medical staff. This position receives a schedule of appointments from Supportive Care Medicine Department, and responds to any inquiries about the kinds of massages offered, the benefits of this service or other related questions. Relaxation massages will be provided in increments of half or full hour appointments. The Massage Therapist utilizes skilled techniques and observes careful sensitivity in delivering massages. Requirements and Qualifications: A. Education: Requires high school education or equivalent. Requires successful completion of an accredited massage therapy program. B. Training/Experience: Minimum of one (1) year experience in the delivery of massage therapy. Previous experience in oncology massage and in review of patient medical records, and demonstrated familiarity with medical terminology is preferred. C. Licenses/Certification: The therapist must be credentialed and maintain a current Florida license in massage therapy. Current BCLS licensure required. D. Competencies: Exhibits professional verbal communication skills and is able to speak to small audiences and provide presentations to small audiences. Requires firm knowledge of various massage therapy techniques. Requires understanding of the specific needs and limitations of cancer patients regarding relaxation massage; annually demonstrates competencies per evaluation by manager and input from other therapists. Competency determination includes documentation that patient information and clinical status is reviewed (as relevant to that patient population) and that orders are verified prior to services. Annually competency is also evaluated by a discussion with Director of Integrative Medicine or designated faculty member on clinical issues relevant to screening prior to massage therapy services.
