    Position Summary:
    We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Aide II - Emergency Dept. - Full Time, Nights (7PM - 7AM, Alternating Days) - NSG-Emergency De.

    In this role, the successful candidate Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse, assists the nursing and medical staff by performing identified service and established procedures to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients. Maintains patient care areas in a clean and orderly condition; prepares equipment and supplies according to established procedure and transports patients as needed. Participates in the orientation process of new employees.

    Job Responsibilities:

    * Observes the patient and relays information and any changes to the appropriate nursing personnel
    * Observes the patient and reports any reaction or change in condition to the nurse in a timely manner.
    * Assists the patient in the activities of daily living – nourishment, ambulation, personal hygiene and toileting. Adapts care delivery to meet the individual needs of the patient.
    * Provides direct nursing care to patients by performing such tasks as vital signs/weight, complete/partial baths, Foley catheter care and enemas in compliance with policy and procedure.
    * Under the direction of the RN, demonstrates proper turning and positioning of patient with required nursing intervention to maintain the skin integrity of patients and reports all alterations to the RN.
    * Distributes patient nourishment; assists with feeding; collects trays and document the patient’s intake on the appropriate form.
    * Maintains and coordinates patient flow into the examination areas in a manner that demonstrates knowledge of practice and personal initiative.
    * Responds to and assists with emergencies as needed under the direction of the RN which including, but not limited to, performing CPR, moving the patient, decontaminating patients according to procedure.

    * Implements measures to minimize patient discomfort within 5 to 15 minutes of request such as notifying nursing and medical staff of patient’s complaints of pain, applying splints and ice, or moving patients per RN direction and procedure.
    * Correctly identifies patients needing specimen collection/procedures according to the patient’s identification and allergy bracelet 100% of the time. If patient needs a bracelet will contact RN and registrar to support that the patient to receives the correct identification bracelet.
    * Accurately collects and labels all specimens according to established procedure.
    * Process’ specimens for transportation and analysis according to hospital and infection control procedures.
    * Properly removes the patients clothing in readiness for examination and completes patient valuables and property record according to procedure.
    * Supports the delivery of patient care by providing a patient care environment that is properly stocked with supplies and properly functioning equipment.
    * Demonstrates and implements surgical and medical asepsis techniques with the preparation of patient equipment for cleaning, sterilization and set up.
    * Properly institutes patient safety measures such as the use of stretcher side-rails; assistance with patient ambulation/transfer/discharge.
    * Complies with restraint procedures and documents compliance on the restraint flow sheet as directed by the RN.
    * Provides for patient safety by placing and responding to the patients call bells. If the request in not in keeping with his/her job description, the Aide is to notify the appropriate person who can respond to the person.
    * Astute knowledge and utilizes principles of safe disposal of needles sharps; contaminated wastes in the identified bags.
    * Assists with the prevention of the transmission of infection by adhering to universal precautions/policy and procedures as evidenced by effective handwashing techniques and the handling of body wastes and specimens.
    * Informs the patient what to expect during their stay in the Emergency Department and provides him/her with information to reduce any misperceptions or unmet expectations.
    * Each staff member will exhibit actions that support the comfort and safety of patients and their families.
    * Professional decorum is to be manifested through all patient interactions whether they be in person; on the telephone or with non-verbal communications.
    * Assumes personal responsibility for each patient/staff interaction. Acknowledges any service issues with the patient and makes every attempt to provide service recovery interventions to assist with the resolution of the problem
    

    Minimum Qualifications:
    To qualify you must have a High School diploma or GED. BLS certification (AHA only), and first aid training.
    De-escalation training on job.
    EMT certificate or prior hospital/sub-acute experience or be a nursing student
    Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients and their families that demonstrate recognition of cultural diversity.
    Basic analytical skills in order to gather data, complete comparisons, interpret and report outcomes to the nurse or document on the medical record.
    Must have excellent customer service and telephone skills.
    Ability to manage and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

    Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

    Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $48,672.00 - $48,672.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
