  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    1. Uses own knowledge and skills to identify and re-evaluate nutrition risk throughout patients stay; independently performs the nutrition care process, including assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, and evaluation, specific to age and medical status., In collaboration with team, develops an interdisciplinary nutrition plan of care for complex patients at high risk, within a specialty population. Modifies plan of care according to own professional knowledge.
    2. Discusses plan of nutrition care with patient/and or family (i.e.: nutrition support, chronic kidney disease education, etc.); provides nutrition education as indicated; electronically documents nutrition plan of care and education provided.
    3. Collaborates with out-patient dietitian team, as well as outside dietitians and vendors, to facilitate smooth transitions and continuity of care for patients upon hospital discharge.
    4. Serves as a clinical expert and professional resource for clinical dietetic technician and provides guidance to advance their skills development.
    5. Advances clinical practice in service area and Department: participates in department-based performance improvement and/or research activities consistently integrates evidence into practice and uses this as a firm foundation for practice.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics or related field required.
    • Registration by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR) required. Current licensure in the state of Maryland as a Dietitian/Nutritionist required.
    • Four (4) years clinical experience is required as a Registered Dietitian at a hospital facility, including completion of UMMC initial review required.
    • Prior completion of a Specialty Fellowship Program or Active Specialty Certification: CNSC, CDE, CSR, CSP, CSO, IBCLC is required. Maintenance of 30 CEUs/2 years (20 CEU in a specialty area every two years) is required.
    • Current on all mandatory classes/training Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pharmacology as they relate to nutrition is required to make clinical decisions regarding a patient’s nutritional care plan.
