  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    1. Schedules all elective surgical & procedural cases daily for the General O.R., Shock Trauma, Procedural and Minor Surgery suites. Generates surgical and procedural schedule for all perioperative and procedural areas while following specified clinical and time allocation guidelines via automated scheduling systems through telephone contact with physicians’ offices, fax, website retrieval, or personally with the physician and/or resident; uses manual systems in the event of automated system downtime. Scheduling locations include both Downtown and Midtown Campus.
    2. Collaborates daily with the appropriate Nursing personnel and respective staff from the Department of Anesthesia in coordinating surgical schedule to provide optimum use of the operating rooms, procedural areas and facilities.
    3. Proactively communicates with the appropriate clinical and materials staff regarding special requests for personnel, equipment and facilities; scheduling conflicts arising from resource requests are resolved with management staff in Perioperative and Procedural Services to ensure resource availability and optimum use of the O.R.’s and Procedural areas before finalizing schedules.
    4. If applicable to the area, ensures that patient demographic and clinical data on newly scheduled cases or changes to existing scheduled cases is communicated to Patient Registration.
    5. Ensures physician scheduling is done according to UMMC DTC or MTC protocol.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

    • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
    • Two years of prior administrative and business operations experience required including at least one of the following: a) Experience with automated scheduling systems or clinical information systems including medical terminology; b) Experience with inventory control, coordinating the supply of materials, and exposure to basic purchasing processes and procedures, six months of which must have been in a hospital or health care setting; c) general clerical and / or administrative experience. Previous O.R. experience preferred.
    • Experience in a business, professional office or health care environment is required.
