Position Summary
Under the order of a physician or other appropriate licensed referral source in the state of Alaska, the occupational therapist (OT) will treat disabled, injured, or ill patients using therapeutic interventions and everyday activities with the goal of improved ability to work and perform activities of daily living. All treatments will be in compliance with hospital standards and guidelines established by the American Occupational Therapy Association. The OT will treat patients from birth to geriatrics in each setting Petersburg Medical Center offers including acute patients, skilled/swing bed hospital patients, outpatients, long term care residents, home health patients. Additionally, this position will contract to the Petersburg school district and REACH infant learning program to provide direct treatment as well as consult services.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluates patients, establishes treatment plans, and implements occupational therapy according to Alaska Occupational Therapy licensure regulations.
- Produce documentation of evaluation, plan and care delivered and outcomes in accordance with hospital and department standards.
- Actively pursues quality communication with physicians, nurses, and other staff members regarding patient care.
- Participates as a Team Member in interdisciplinary meetings for Long Term Care, Skilled/Swing Bed, and Home Health patients as necessary.
- Participates in Long Term Care multi-disciplinary team staff meetings quarterly. Assists with the development of new protocols, gathering and analysis of Quality Assurance data, and continuing education.
- Has general oversight of Long Term Care activities program and will do quarterly review with the Activities Coordinator.
- Maintains therapy equipment and orders department supplies as needed.
- Functions within the limits of the Code of Ethics of the American Occupational Therapy Association, mission of Petersburg Medical Center, and hospital and department policies.
- Demonstrates and maintains a working knowledge of current Occupational Therapy practices.
- Functions within the limits of the Code of Ethics of the American Occupational Therapy Association (as required for licensure in Alaska), the mission of the Petersburg Medical Center, and the department policies.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient matters and hospital matters according to HIPAA standards and Hospital policies.
- Presents hospital in a positive manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of occupational therapy.
- Experience: One year of clinical experience as an occupational therapist preferred.
- Licensure: Registered Occupational Therapist in the State of Alaska
- Must be able to pass -- a State of Alaska Background Check and drug screen (including Marijuana).
Working Conditions
Moderate to heavy lifting (no greater than 50 pounds) standing, walking, and handling patients, equipment, and supplies.
