PPAP engages in legislative and electoral activity including advocacy, education campaigns, grassroots organizing, and electioneering. Our mission is to improve the quality and affordability of reproductive and sexual health care, protect and expand services that prevent unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, and ensure continued access to safe, legal, and confidential abortion care. Interning at PPAP is an opportunity to help ensure that all Angelenos have access to affordable, high-quality sexual and reproductive health care. Every internship at PPLA is substantive, includes tangible projects and initiatives you can put on your resume, and provides plenty of opportunities to learn about all of the facets of reproductive health care, comprehensive sexual education and reproductive justice advocacy. All interns will be exposed as well to PPLAs partners in the community and elected representatives, providing interns with professional connections outside of our organization. Internship Description Every week is different for Public Affairs Interns, but depending on the time of year (and thus time in the legislative sessions and election cycle), interns focus on a few different duties: Electoral Campaigns PPAP endorses candidates who are womens health champions and works on campaigns and independent expenditures to help elect them. This entails phone banks, canvassing, and a lot of volunteer recruitment. Policy Campaigns PPAP advocates for pro-womens health policies on a local, state and federal level. This entails setting up lobby visits, organizing trips to Sacramento, attending rallies, and coordinating with coalition partners on other issues that matter to Planned Parenthood patients and their families. Volunteer Coordination PPAP has a robust volunteer structure called Planned Parenthood Action Leagues (PPALs). Interns often coordinate projects for the PPALs that connect to the electoral and policy campaigns. There is often a base-building component to bring more supporters into the Action Leagues.
