  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Repairs, maintains, and modifies building plumbing, steam distribution, and related equipment.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

    1. Performs regular maintenance, including rodding, cleaning, etc., on drains and fixtures.

    2. Plunges toilets and drains.

    3. Inspects, cleans, and/or repairs steam traps and strainers.

    4. Repairs steam, gas, and oxygen leaks.

    5. Solders, brazes, and welds material.

    6. Repairs flushometers.

    7. Checks pump operation in various areas of the hospital complex.

    8. Performs maintenance on sterilizers.

    9. Resets circuit breakers.

    10. Installs sinks, toilets, etc.; replaces toilet seats.

    11. Installs new water and sewer systems.

    12. Performs minor electrical and carpentry repairs associated with plumbing systems.

    13. Installs, repairs, and maintains pumps, heat exchangers, regulators, safety valves, and hospital plumbing fixtures.

    14. Assists Stationary Engineers and Preventive Maintenance and Operations Mechanics with special projects and troubleshooting, repairs, and installations of new service.

    15. Assists in other areas of the department, including boiler room.

    16. Picks up and delivers various supplies, parts, and building materials.

    17. Unloads salt for the boiler room, as needed.

    18. Orders supplies, as necessary; obtains parts and supplies in emergencies.

    19. Shovels snow; spreads sand and salt.

    20. Cleans work and shop areas.

    21. Responds to the following Mid-town Campus codes: Code Red, Code Pink, Code D and Code U.

    22. Responsible for honest behavior in all matters. To the best of the employee’s knowledge and understanding, complies with all Federal and State Laws and Regulations.

    23. Performs other facilities management duties, for which he/she is qualified, as assigned.

    24. Strives to achieve excellence of service as described in care manual.

    25. Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.

    26. Performs related duties, as assigned.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

    • Minimum of three years of experience in plumbing and/or general facility maintenance.
    • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, etc.
    • Current drivers license to travel to various hospital properties.
    • Healthcare experience preferred

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Must be able to lift and move heavy equipment and materials.
    • Work sites may require access by climbing and crawling and, at times, may be at high or low temperatures.
    • The use of ear and eye protection is required.
    • Exposure to electrical shock, chemicals, dust, and other hazards may be present depending on work area.

    Pay Range: $31.16-$37.8
