  • Responsibilities

    Responsible for the assessment, treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation and care of patients during the transport process, under the direction of the Nurse Manager of the Transport Team, the Administrative Director and the Medical Director. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes and can function autonomously in an advanced clinical role with responsibilities in the areas of clinical care, leadership, education, consultation and research. Contributes to the provision of quality care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care. Assists management in the development of systems, processes and programs to improve the quality of patient care and increase nursing efficiency throughout the transport process. Develops, coordinates, and monitors unit preceptor program in collaboration with nurse managers.

    Required Skills

    1. Comprehensive knowledge of routine and critical procedures with critical thinking skills for both neonatal and pediatric patients.
    2. Thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology and ability to practice good judgment in the implementation of clinical interventions indicated by the patient status.
    3. Ability to adapt to varied age-specific patient problems.
    4. Demonstrated expertise in transport equipment and modalities, emergency care procedures, oxygen delivery capabilities of various transport vehicles, and patient management at high altitudes.
    5. Ability to foster and facilitate collaborative interpersonal relationships.
    6. Ability to negotiate and resolve conflict.
    7. Ability to foster and implement team-building strategies.
    8. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
    9. Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.

    Required Experience

    Work Experience:

    • Three years experience as a Registered Nurse in adult, pediatric, neonatal critical care or emergency required.
    • Critical care transport experience preferred.

    License/Registration/Certification:

    • Current Registered Nurse licensure by the State of Texas.
    • Current CPR Training program required.
    • Current ACLS, PALS and/or APLS.
    • NRP and STABLE provider certifications required within three months of employment.
    • Completion of ATNC or auditing of TNCC or ENPC within the first year of employment.
    • Completion of PNCCT, TNATC, and advanced flight physiology certification within two years of employment.
    • Completion of CTRN and CFRN or C-NPT within two years of employment.
    • CCRN certification preferred.

    Education and Training:

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
