About the Career Opportunity Clinical Nurse/Neuro Trauma Care Unit (FONT) Salem Hospital is designated a Level II Regional Trauma Center, with the Neuro Trauma Care Unit (NTCU) situated on the 7th floor of the Critical Care Tower (Building A). The NTCU is a unit that provides care to adult patients who have sustained an injury; a neurological condition or surgery; such as, stroke, traumatic brain injury, or spinal surgeries; or patients with medical conditions including sepsis, CHF, COPD, cardiovascular conditions, amongst others. The NTCU care team is comprised of physicians and allied clinicians, nurses, nursing assistants, stroke CNS, Spine Center of Excellence RN navigator, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, physical therapists, dietitians, social workers, palliative care, and chaplains. This team works both independently as well as collaboratively as together we maintain a positive environment that provides our patients with an exceptional care experience every time. (FONT) NTCU has been the recipient of several awards, including the Silver and Gold Level Get with the Guidelines Awards, numerous patient satisfaction awards, and we are a Joint Commission Accredited Center of Excellence for our Spine Center. We practice under a model of shared governance. Key decisions are made in collaboration among frontline staff and unit leaders. The NTCU staff is represented by the unit Special Practice Council (SPT) consisting of registered nurses, the leadership team (nurse manager and assistant nurse managers), Spine Center RN Navigator, and certified nursing assistants. The SPT serves as a venue to which members of the team have the opportunity to address concerns and/or questions regarding unit practice and performance related to our strategic goals. Any issues brought to the SPT are reviewed, discussed, and appropriate actions and/or recommendations are provided. The unit promotes and values a positive and supportive work environment of greater collaboration among colleagues and leaders. (FONT) The NTCU nursing staff has the opportunity for professional advancement through the unit credentialing program, opening pathways to advanced role opportunities. The hospitals New Grad Residence Program incorporates the AACNs Essentials of Critical Care Orientation (ECCO). This program provides first-time nurses with a blended learning process of computer-based education, precepted clinical training, and classroom experience sensitive to the local diverse and multicultural environment. (FONT) What youll need (FONT) -Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited school of nursing -Minimum of one year of RN staff nurse experience required, except for the New Grads Residence Program -Current and unrestricted Oregon nursing license. -BLS issued by the American Heart Association Minimum Qualifications Include: Requires BSN or non-nursing Bachelors Degree with MSN for all external applicants for Salem Hospital, preferred for West Valley Hospital. Bachelor of Arts in Nursing also accepted. For internal applicants preference may be given to applicant with BSN. Minimum of one (1) year of Clinical Nurse experience required. For candidates with less than one (1) year, see New Grad requirements. Current unencumbered licensure to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon. BLS issued by the American Heart Association required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Include: 1. Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical skills. 2. Ability to work effectively under pressure and to use professional judgment in emergency situations. 3. Must have basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills. 4. Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment. 5. Ability to serve as team leader. Core Job Functions Include: ASSESSMENT A. Performs an accurate, ongoing, pertinent assessment for each assigned patient that are age appropriate. Reports/consults pertinent data to other health team members and implements appropriate action. B. Assesses historical data pertinent to medical, social, cultural and educational factors and prior rehabilitation efforts. All areas of the evaluation are addressed. C. Assesses patient/family education needs and learning readiness level, and uses appropriate language and terminology. Repeats instructions often if needed. INTERVENTION A. Demonstrates competency in delivery of care based on the patient care plan. Performs nursing skills following Salem Health-West Valley Hospital policies and procedures utilizing appropriate resources. Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific behaviors when caring for patients. Such as: a. Involves family or designated caregiver with care b. Encourage self-care c. Assists patient to plan for anticipated body changes d. Assists, when appropriate, reminiscing about events B. Prioritizes care based on patients current needs. Proactive in preventing adverse outcomes. Demonstrates follow-through in the completion of patient care. C. Intervenes appropriately in emergency situations. PLAN A. Initiates and/or reviews appropriate plan of care with patient/family to address holistic age-specific needs and reflect the patients changing condition. B. Develops a plan of treatment based on the patients rehabilitation potential, rehabilitation barriers, objective findings, cultural, social, medical and developmental backgrounds. C. Plans for the transfer/discharge of the patient to the next appropriate level of care in the continuum and is proactive in working with other members of the health care team and/or family as appropriate. Working Conditions Include: Frequent standing, moving about work area, lift & carry 1-10 pounds, walk-level surface, use of arms/wrist, & manual dexterity (grasping/squeezing). Includes exposure to weather, heat, cold, chemicals, etc, unusual shifts, etc. Demonstrates proficiency in safe patient handling use of equipment. Ability to safely pull, turn & lift a minimum of 50 lbs. unaided & more than 100 lbs. with assistance.
