    Job Description:

    The Neuropsychiatry Discovery department at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting an associate scientist in Neuropsychiatry drug discovery located in San Deigo, CA.

    Successful candidate will actively engage in early discovery efforts to support Johnson & Johnson’s Neuropsychiatry discovery strategy. This individual will be responsible for the hands-on execution of in vitro cell culture and molecular biology experiments, and oversee the generation, analysis and accurate recording of data in compliance with data integrity requirements, and effectively present the findings to the project team. They will design and perform experiments, interpret data and troubleshoot issues. The primary role will be to support the target identification and target validation programs for drug discovery for the treatment of Psychiatric disorders. It will also include running established in vitro assays to assess potency, efficacy, and mechanism-of-action of molecules that modulate specific receptors and channels.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Perform, analyze, and refine in vitro tissue culture and molecular biology experiments, and assays for compound characterization and mechanism of action studies. Troubleshoot and optimize experimental protocols.
    • Work within a matrixed environment to support progress towards the project and team goals. Prepare experimental reports that include detailed methods and materials, raw data, data analyses and graphs, and conclusions.
    • Record experimental methods and results in an electronic laboratory notebook.
    • Present experimental results during group and project team meetings.
    • Follow laboratory safety and data integrity guidelines.

    Qualifications:

    Education

    • BS/BA in a field related to Biomedical Science is required. 3+ years of experience is preferred. MSc degree is preferred.
    • Basic knowledge of molecular biology and cell biology is required.

    Experience and Skills:

    • Experience in sterile technique and cell culture is highly preferred.
    • Experience in basic molecular biology techniques, such as RNA and DNA extractions from cells/tissues and PCR, is highly preferred.
    • Knowledge of pharmacological concepts and experience in conducting in vitro assays is preferred.
    • Experience with primary cell culture of neurons or induced pluripotent stem cells is preferred.
    • Ability to work independently as well as in a team is required.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point, and have strong oral and written communication skills is required.

    The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

    $61,000 - $98,900

    Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

    The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)). This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
