    Purpose:

    The Senior Engineer, R&D for the Topical Skin Adhesives platform will conduct research directed toward the discovery and development of innovative topical skin adhesive products. This role will involve hands-on technical work, coordinating project management activities, and ensuring the timely achievement of project milestones. The engineer will work under minimal supervision on complex projects and will contribute considerably to the development of wound healing products and adhesives.

    You will be responsible for:

    • Conduct advanced research and development for a large project or several smaller projects utilizing established and novel technologies.
    • Provide hands-on technical work while assisting and supervising others as needed.
    • Employ specialized knowledge in medical device development to support product innovation.
    • Ensure all project timelines and objectives are met, coordinating process management and reporting.
    • Lead multidisciplinary project teams in designing, developing, testing, and manufacturing topical skin adhesives and wound healing devices, functioning effectively as both a team member and a leader.
    • Actively participate in lab-based development activities to analyze and interpret performance and analytical data, guiding product and process optimization.
    • Document research activities in compliance with design control requirements and spearhead development tasks for new materials, components, and processes related to skin adhesion.
    • Apply state-of-the-art scientific techniques and technical leadership to support the design of new products and enhancements to existing product lines.
    • Utilize expertise to troubleshoot and resolve technical and executional issues, contributing inventions, new designs, and new processes driven by customer needs.
    • Identify and capitalize on opportunities for design and process improvements aligned with business objectives.
    • Conduct or manage research and analysis within larger R&D initiatives, developing procedures and standards for reporting and operations as necessary.
    • Interact directly with customers (surgeons) to uncover unmet needs and develop solutions based on feedback.
    • Ensure compliance with project guidelines and timely execution of all related activities while adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Prepare samples for manufacturing, testing, or other evaluations, and generate the necessary documentation such as SOPs, JSAs (Safety), and batch records following GLP/GMP standards.
    • Participate in the transfer of processes and products to the operations group and coordinate with external vendors and academic institutions as needed.
    • Responsible for maintaining time management in alignment with project milestones and deliverables.
    • Other responsibilities may be assigned & not all responsibilities listed may be assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field is required, with 5-7 years of relevant experience. A Master's or Ph.D. degree with 3-6 years of experience is preferred.
    • Minimum of 2-4 years in medical device development or adhesive industry experience.
    • Must possess experience in the development of wound healing products, topical dressings and/or adhesives technologies.
    • Proven ability to lead complex projects effectively.
    • Proficient in working effectively within a laboratory environment while conducting hands-on experiments and clearly communicating results to project teams.
    • Strong verbal communication skills suitable for both large and small groups, alongside clear and concise written communication abilities.
    • Capable of making decisions independently and dealing with abstract or complex cause-and-effect relationships, often in data-limited situations.
    • Solid grounding in applying scientific principles, analytical techniques, and judgment to address technical challenges and establish new methods and procedures.
    • Knowledge of chemistry and physics with an understanding of material characterization, structure-property relationships, and formulation development for applications.
    • Broad knowledge of medical device product development, biocompatible materials, and relevant regulatory requirements for topical skin adhesives and wound healing products.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision and familiarity with material and process specifications.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
    • Willingness to engage directly in laboratory activities and experimental work as part of product development efforts.
    • 10% travel domestic and international

    The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

    $105,000-$147,000

    Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

    The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)). This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
