  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    Prepare and deliver medications and information to physicians, nurses, other health-care providers and patients within the hospital correctly and in a timely manner, in accordance with Maryland Board of Pharmacy Regulations and UM UCH policies and procedures. Supervises and is responsible for technical staff in all phases of their delegated duties. Check all orders, IV admixtures, repacking of meds, floor stocks, and emergency medication supplies that leave the pharmacy. Interacts with patient population from neonate to elderly with all types of illnesses. Interacts with physician, nursing staff and patients as consultant and educator regarding medication usage. Provides daily pharmaceutical care to patients through prevention, adverse drug reaction management and review, target drug monitoring, adjusting renally-eliminated medications, pharmacokinetic consults, transitioning patients to oral therapy, participates in inter-disciplinary patient care rounds, and identifies medications for future improvement initiatives.   • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Education & Training: Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy; Doctorate of Pharmacy, Hospital Residency or similar experience desirable. Licensed, or eligible, to practice pharmacy in the State of Maryland. Applicants whose Maryland licensure is pending, either by reciprocity from another state or recent Pharmacy Graduate, will work under direct supervision of a licensed staff pharmacist (for a period not to exceed 6 months) until Maryland licensure is obtained.

    Work Orientation & Experience: Prior hospital pharmacy experience preferred. The incumbent may require up to three months of detailed job orientation, training and self-study to gain specific capabilities to perform essential job functions required of hospital pharmacists.

Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships and open lines of communications. Ability to organize and manage time effectively. Ability to make independent decisions. Ability to use good judgment in implementing and planning pharmaceutical care. Ability to communicate with patients of various ages. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with a variety of people. Ability to move/lift/transport/carry objects and articles of varying size and weight. Ability to collaborate with peers.
