    Innovative Medicine, a division of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies is recruiting a Data Engineering Intern, in Innovative Medicine R&D Data Sciences. The R&D Data Science team within Innovative Medicine is driven to meaningfully change the trajectory of disease with transformational medicines to advance the care of patients in the communities we serve. The team utilizes a diverse set of data and tools, along with platform solutions to answer impactful analytical questions and inform key projects from discovery all the way through late development. This role is hybrid and sits within the ORBIT (Oncology Research Biomarker Innovation Tower) team which establishes a cohesive and unified multimodal biomarker data hub across clinical studies. It creates a robust foundation that empowers AI/ML capabilities to advance precision medicine.

    Position Components

    In this role, you will

    • Engage in hands-on exploration to acquire a comprehensive understanding of biomarker data across oncology, immunology, and neuroscience domains.
    • Design and construct AI-ready datasets that serve as a foundational resource for advanced analytics and research.
    • Develop data engineering pipelines to transform, clean, and enrich biomarker data assets in preparation for clinical trials and machine learning applications.
    • Build backend cloud engineering infrastructure that serves to enable scalable data engineering and machine learning use cases
    • Stay informed on cutting edge applications and use cases of data and tools, and platform solutions supporting the data science field and present back to the team through trainings and presentation.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Be currently pursuing a degree in computer science, bioinformatics, engineering, or related degrees
    • Possess a strong understanding of Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Biomedical Informatics or related field as demonstrated by current or prior coursework
    • Proficient in SQL with the ability to manipulate and query large datasets effectively, ensuring data readiness for AI applications.
    • Strong programming skills in Python for data manipulation, analysis, and automation tasks.
    • Possess strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills (technical and/or business)
    • Strong interest in the exploration of innovative research using Clinical Biomarker Data, and gaining data domain knowledge

    Preferred:

    • Coursework or background in computer science, information systems, biomedical engineering, and other life sciences
    • Have prior experience thru other internships/jobs with hands-on data engineering and data science
    • Prior independent or classroom research experience on a data-focused project
    • Experience with relevant disease biology in cancer, immunology, and neuroscience disease

    • Must be permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.
