  • Responsibilities

    Supervises and coordinates Department operations and activities on a specified shift to ensure quality patient care and optimal operation and efficiency. Responsible for assisting the department Manager in the management of patient care administered by other members of the Respiratory Care staff. Assists in the development and the monitoring of unit-specific systems and in the coordination of activities that improve the quality of patient care for each unit/floor. Supervises and monitors work of all the Respiratory Care Practitioners providing direct patient care. Assists the Manager in the evaluation of Associates on a specific shift. Provides professional respiratory care services to patients utilizing components of the Department process, which includes: organizing, planning, directing and evaluating the functions and provisions of the Respiratory Care Services to patients by effective supervision of personnel, use of equipment medical-legal aspects of patient care, effective communication skills within and between Departments and the close coordination with the Manager, Respiratory Care IT Coordinator, Medical Director and the Medical Staff by assuring methods of compliance with Joint Commission, Medicare, Medicaid conditions of participation and other regulator and practice standards. This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients ranging in age from birth to seventeen years.

    Required Experience

    Work Experience

    • Three years experience in clinical Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, of which two years experience should be in intensive respiratory care.
    • One additional year with progressive leadership experience in specialty units (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Emergency Service, and/or Neonatal ICU) required.

    License/Registration/Certification

    • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
    • Current Texas Respiratory Care License.
    • ACLS
    • PALS
    • NRP
    • STABLE
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) Card
    • Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty (NPS) certification required or obtained within six months of being in position.
    • Completion of APLS, TNCC and ENPC within first year of employment.

    Education and Training

    • Completion of a two year CoARC approved respiratory care program (Associates Degree),
    • Bachelor's degree in allied Health field preferred.
