    Responsible for directing the work of order entry staff, outpatient phlebotomist(s) and other assigned staff to assure proper functioning of the Support Services section of the laboratory which includes specimen receiving, outpatient phlebotomy, incoming and outgoing reference lab work and client services.  Establishes and maintains a system where work performed is checked for accuracy and timeliness.  Monitors quality, monitors client satisfaction, monitors billing information and maintains supplies.  Performs a variety of procedures in addition to troubleshooting problems and training staff as required.  Works under general direction of the Manager Laboratory.

    Required Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory science or medical technology program and a minimum of two years experience with high complexity testing and phlebotomy OR an Associate’s degree in a laboratory science or medical technology program  with  a minimum of three years experience with high complexity testing and phlebotomy
    • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in patient situations
    • Computer skills to include standard office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook. Prior experience with laboratory computer systems is highly desirable
    • Verbal communication skills required to interact with other hospital personnel and outside clients
    • Strong organizational and employee support skills are required to organize and coordinate the variety of staff and the duties they perform in the section
    • Writing skills and computer aptitude required to document performance competencies of personnel as well as preparing daily, weekly and other periodic summary reports
    • Must be available to rotate shifts and work weekends and holidays
