Qualifications
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Must successfully complete all established training requirements and courses established and provided by the department.
- Ability to multi-task and meet established deadlines.
- Ability to assess potentially dangerous situations quickly and make sound decisions based on the information present and takes appropriate action.
- Must be physically able to stand or walk for long periods of time and work odd, irregular hours (Saturdays, Sundays, overnights, holidays, etc.).
- Knowledge of or ability to learn security operations and procedures.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.

EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Ability to read and write at a proficient level.
- Basic Computer Skills are required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Prior security, customer service, or administrative experience a plus
OTHER:
- To be eligible for promotion to a Public Safety Officer I, the incumbent must meet all requirements for that position, including the possession of a valid driver’s license, the ability to pass federally mandated background checks, and eligibility to obtain appointment as a Special State Police Officer (MGL 22C s. 63) or as a Boston Special Officer under BPD Rule 400.
An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Some exposure to the elements while standing post.
- May be exposed to stressful situations, such as challenging individuals who are in or approaching an unauthorized area.
- May work odd, long, or irregular hours. Position may also require unanticipated overtime and holdovers to maintain minimum staffing levels from time to time.
- Required ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
- Keyboarding, basic computer usage and operating controls; may be required to operate various software applications.
- Seeing, hearing, speaking, and writing clearly in order to communicate with employees and visitors, observe and report incidents, and direct others.
- Frequent contact with patients, visitors, employees, and the general public
