The nurse intern would be partnered with a Registered Nurse who mentors and develops the interns experiences while retaining full accountability and responsibility for the care of the patient. The student nurse intern would perform normal nursing assistant duties as well as technical skills which have been learned and acquired in nursing school. The interns job duties will increase as skills are learned and competencies are documented by the partnering RN. Program begins May 21, 2018 and concludes August 4, 2018. All applications must be received by April 27th, 2018 in order to be considered. Requirements: Must currently be enrolled and in good standing in a nursing program Must have GPA of 3.0 Must be entering the last year of their nursing program Must be able to commit to a 36 hours per week for the entire 10 week program. Must be able to commit to a day or night shift position Must be able to commit to weekend rotations Responsibilities 1. Patient Plan of Care: With RN direction and supervision, performs patient care activities based on age, need and expectations of the patient. · Performs various nursing skills according to established standards based on patients plan of care and interns ability/learning needs · Assists patients with activities of daily living · Observes RN develop the patients plan of care. · Assists with monitoring patient condition and response to medications, treatments, and therapies; takes relevant actions if any concern/question. 2. Teamwork : Provides support to other patient care team members by assisting with patient care, associated tasks, and clerical functions. 3. Communication : Uses various tools and techniques to communicate patient care information and enhance interpersonal skills with patients, families, and healthcare team members. · Documents in the medical record consistent with guidelines and facility standards · Communicates pertinent clinical data and relevant changes in patient status to RN or other appropriate healthcare team members 4. Professional Growth : Utilizes the Student Nurse Intern learning experience to enhance and/or develop the knowledge, competence in technical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills, and the behaviors that are essential to the role of the Registered Nurse. Basic UPH Performance Criteria · Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines. · Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance. · Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position. · Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare. · Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year. · Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance. Qualifications Minimum Requirements Identify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position. Preferred or Specialized Not required to perform the essential functions of the position. Education: Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing. GPA of at least 3.0 required. Employee must have completed one clinical rotation and is within one year of completion of their nursing program. Experience: Desire to work in the Hospital setting upon completion of nursing school required. Continues to acquire and maintain current knowledge and skills in nursing school. CNA experience preferred but not required. Suggest CNA certification test successfully passed. License(s)/Certification(s): Valid drivers license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Valid CPR required. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Advanced reading, writing and oral skills Ability to respond appropriately to customer/coworker Interaction with a wide variety of people Maintain confidential information Ability to communicate only the facts to recipients or to decline to reveal information Ability to project a professional, friendly, helpful demeanor Ability to utilize PC including, basic elements of Windows environment, keyboarding, work with mouse, and perform basic computer tasks with instruction. Other: Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
