Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital Located on the main campus, VPH is
a 92 bed free-standing facility which provides inpatient, partial
hospitalization and outpatient services for children, adolescents and
adults with psychiatric and substance abuse problems. Services include
24 hour crisis assessment and referral services available on site at VPH
or in Vanderbilt's Emergency Departments. Adult patients are treated in
programs designed to meet the needs of three populations, dual diagnosis
of mental illness and substance abuse, mood disorders and Thought
disorders. Care is delivered by a treatment team, led by a board
certified psychiatrist and comprised of registered nurses, social
workers, nutritionists and other mental health professionals. Vanderbilt
Behavioral Health is the only provider of inpatient mental health
services for children in Middle Tennessee. Key Areas of
Responsibility As CNO the chosen candidate will be help to grow the
quality of care for the entire service line while raising the bar and
continuing to advance the many world class initiatives already in place.
They will oversee the nursing strategy and day to day operations of all
inpatient and outpatient patient encounters across the continuum of care
to include direct VPH, ED triage and admits. These include: * 92
inpatient beds which span across 6 units: * 64 adult beds (22
psychosis/16 detox/20 mood disorders/6 geriatrics) * 28 child and
adolescent beds * A neuromodulation service (ECT, TMS) * 70,000
outpatient visits (across all ages and diagnostic categories) *
School-based mental health programs * Multiple community mental health
and outreach clinics across the network of VHAN affiliate hospitals and
health systems throughout the tristate region * All programs are covered
by Vanderbilt physicians and residents alike in a closed staff model to
encompass approximately 7 adult teams and 4 adolescent teams. Both the
hospital and clinics run at 90% or greater capacity with a LOS of 6.5
days. Essential Functions * Create an organizational culture (both
within and across departments) that provides a safe, satisfying and
enriching environment for employees and provides a qualified, competent
staff to meet patient needs. * Develop goals and objectives for the
department based on interpretation of institutional policy and goals *
Establish and articulate a philosophy of nursing consistent with the
educational, research, and patient care missions of the University's
Medical Center. * Review, establish, and revise policies, procedures,
and standards related to all aspects of nursing practice. Interpret
policies and objectives to nursing staff, patient, and community groups.
- Together with senior medical and administrative staff, participate in
the establishment of the mission, strategic plan, budgets, resource
allocation, operational plans, and policies for the Hospital and
Vanderbilt Clinic * Conduct studies and establish procedures to study
the effectiveness of nursing practice in relation to its objectives and
cost. * Keep the Executive Director informed at all times on status of
departments and make recommendations, as necessary, concerning means of
reducing operational costs, increasing revenues based on knowledge of
market trends, operating procedures and reimbursement matters. * Design,
implement, evaluate and market programs to maximize clinical outcomes,
functional status, patient/customer satisfaction and reimbursement. *
Supervise Associate Director of Patient Care Services and all nursing
staff who provide patient care with full responsibility for planning,
coordinating, and controlling the work procedures; analyze and evaluate
ongoing department programs to identify areas where
adjustments/improvements are needed; provide advice/consultation to
others regarding problems. * Define and achieve financial targets in
support of business goals of the institution. * Prepare an annual
operating budget for Patient Care Services, including direct labor,
material and supplies, services, equipment maintenance and replacement.
- Present and justify a proposed budget (operating and capital
expenditure) to a management review committee. * Use patient/customer
satisfaction data to improve systems, processes and outcomes. * Masters
Degree required * DNP/PHD preferred * 3+ years in bed-side, unit nursing
in psychiatric/behavioral health with exposure to both inpatient and
ambulatory settings, preferably in an academic/teaching environment. *
3+ years minimum management experience in psychiatry spanning clinical
operations and strategic growth, encompassing ED encounters/admissions.
