    Paid Internship Description

    The Delaware River Port Authority (“DRPA”) is a bi-state agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of New Jersey. It owns and operates the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry, and Betsy Ross Bridges which are four major bridge crossings of the Delaware River. The Authority’s transit subsidiary, the Port Authority Transit Corporation (“PATCO”), operates a two-track rapid transit line between Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Lindenwold, New Jersey.

    Program Description

    The DRPA/PATCO is seeking to hire college students for the 2025 summer season. The hourly rate for these intern positions is $26.84. While former summer interns are welcome to apply, past employment as a summer intern does not guarantee that you will be selected for an internship this summer. Students who wish to apply for a summer internship must meet the following criteria:

    1. Successful completion of a pre-employment evaluation which includes drug (including marijuana) and alcohol.
    2. Successful completion of a criminal background investigation conducted by a third-party vendor.
    3. Official school transcript with the raised seal documenting that you completed at least one year of undergraduate studies (Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 - 24 credits).
    4. Official school documentation that you are enrolled in the upcoming Fall 2025 semester on a full-time basis (12 credits).
    5. Assignments require a full-time commitment (40 hours) for 12 weeks.
    6. Verification by you that you are lawfully permitted to work in the United States by providing within the first three (3) days following the commencement of your employment with the Delaware River Port Authority, the documents necessary to establish your identity and eligibility for employment.

    Position Purpose: Gain experience in maintaining outdoor spaces through hands-on landscaping and maintenance tasks.

    Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the duties, responsibilities, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The DRPA will adhere to all applicable laws and regulations in assessing an employee's ability to carry out or otherwise meet the job requirements set forth herein in a satisfactory manner.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Maintain grass, landscape areas, trees, shrubs, and remove brush to ensure clean and attractive grounds.
    2. Assist in trash and debris removal from parking lots to maintain cleanliness and safety.
    3. Operate various pieces of landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
    4. Assist with planting, mulching, and the maintenance of planters to enhance the aesthetic appeal of our facilities.
    5. Report maintenance issues or safety hazards promptly to ensure a safe and well-maintained environment.
    6. Collaborate with team members for efficient operation and contribute to a positive work environment.

    Education and/or Experience

    Required:

    • Applicants must be 18 years of age.
    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
    • Basic understanding of landscaping tools and techniques.
    • Interns must attend an accredited college/university, including a community college (junior college), and their home residence must be located within DRPA’s Port District, which includes (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania, and Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean, and Salem, counties in New Jersey).

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    Prepare cost estimates for construction and maintenance projects. Aid management in bidding on or determining price and schedule. Some key task and responsibilities are:

    • Read and comprehend all contract documents including specifications, project scopes, drawings and standards to prepare accurate project cost estimates
    • Accurately take off material quantities from drawings to develop material and labor pricing
    • Assemble scoped RFP’s for vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing. Analyze, compare and select best value vendor and subcontractor proposals for inclusion in cost estimates
    • Prepare schedules for proposal submission
    • Attend pre-bid meetings and site walk-downs to understand project scope, conditions, physical restrictions, etc.
    • Escort subcontractors on site visits, walking them through the scope of work to obtain the most accurate pricing
    • Attend post-bid review and project kick-off meetings with the owner as needed
    • Attend in-house project turnover meetings from estimating to project management
    • Understand and appropriately estimate the costs associated with safety and other project location specific work rules
    • Participate in bid review and scope review meetings and be able to explain a projects scope and estimated project costs as well as assumptions and means/methods to upper management for approval
    • Utilize historical cost data to develop cost estimates
    • Maintain quality service by following organization standards
    • Maintain continuity among corporate, division and local work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs
    • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results and helping other estimators as needed
    • Prepare detailed breakdown of cost estimates that facilitates review and understanding

    Education and/or Work Experience Requirement:
